00:00The standoff at Drum Cree has entered its third day, with talks continuing in a bid to resolve
00:05the contentious parading dispute in Portadown, Northern Ireland. Members of the Orange Order
00:09remain at Drum Cree Church, expecting to begin their permitted parade, but hundreds of nationalist
00:14protesters continue to blockade the Garvahi Road.
00:27I have gathered here in huge, huge numbers. They've gathered because they are angry.
00:34They are gathered because they are devastated.
00:38I mean, this is a community that you've seen that's been re-traumatised after being visited
00:44again upon them. A community that came through so much 28 years ago, and a community that's
00:48been building its positivity and progress over the last 28 years. And then we have the Orange
00:53Order stepping in, political news and stepping in, and wanting to reverse the fortunes of
00:57this community, wanting to bring them back to the days of old. This community do not want
01:01this. They do not want this much. And tonight, I believe, is another victory for this community
01:05and standing steadfast for the right to live free from sectarian harassment and intimidation.
01:10We have a lawful body that has made a lawful determination. It was scrutinised by the
01:14courts, and it was upheld by the courts. We now have lawmakers acting as lawbreakers.
01:20And they need to face the consequences for their actions. We cannot have a situation where
01:26people who have the privilege of assuming and holding high office in Northern Ireland so
01:32flagrantly disregard the pledge of office and the statutory underpinnings of their office.
01:36They have debased themselves, and they are debasing their office. And those are the
01:41things that we are having to deal with today.
01:43It is absolutely important that everybody cooperates with the police, that everybody takes a moment
01:53to maintain a degree of calm, to respect people who have a different opinion from yourselves,
02:02and to be able to try and achieve some kind of resolution of what is obviously a very difficult
02:07situation today.
