On February 10th, 2025, a father watched his entire family get struck while crossing a busy Florida highway. But as first responders desperately tried to save them, the driver responsible was nowhere to be found. The young family was crossing U.S. 301 in Sarasota when a Lexus struck 29-year-old Taylor Bennett and her two young sons, 2-year-old Rio and 5-month-old Kylin. Moments before the impact, the father had stepped back toward the road to retrieve Taylor's dropped phone. That's when he heard the collision and turned around to see his family scattered across the roadway. Bodycam footage captures the devastating moments that followed. The father desperately tries to help his family while repeatedly asking first responders whether his children are breathing and pleading with his loved ones to stay with him. Making the situation even more difficult, the couple's 7-year-old daughter was waiting alone at their nearby home, completely unaware of what had just happened. Officers eventually took the father back to the house to get her while paramedics continued treating the rest of the family. Meanwhile, witnesses told police they had seen a sedan strike the family before leaving the area. One witness claimed the driver appeared to slow down or briefly stop before continuing away from the scene. Investigators spent the following days reviewing surveillance footage and tracing the vehicle's movements. Their investigation eventually led them to a Lexus belonging to 72-year-old June Fenton. When detectives contacted Fenton, she claimed she believed she had struck a dog. According to investigators, Fenton said she turned around afterward, noticed people on the opposite side of the road and eventually went home. Police discovered significant damage to her Lexus, and investigators say a forensic examination later connected evidence from the vehicle to the crash scene.
23 days after the collision, officers returned to Fenton's home and placed her under arrest. Bodycam footage captures her calmly greeting one of the officers by saying, "You can't get enough of me, can you?" Fenton cooperated with officers and was placed in handcuffs in front of her because of reported shoulder pain. After being read her rights, she declined to answer additional questions without an attorney present. The consequences of the crash were devastating. According to the video, both young boys died that same night. Taylor remained hospitalized in a coma for nearly two months before she also died, leaving behind her husband and two daughters. Following Taylor's death, the video states that Fenton's charges were increased to three counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Her bond was reportedly set at $650,000 before she was later released with an ankle monitor and prohibited from driving.
