A 27-year-old man appeared completely confused when police suddenly arrived at his apartment with a search warrant. But officers were there because of an online investigation that authorities say led directly to an account connected to his residence.
The investigation began after authorities received a cyber tip regarding concerning online material that had allegedly been uploaded through an internet connection associated with the apartment.
After gathering enough information to obtain a search warrant, officers arrived at the residence, where Kewan was with his girlfriend, Hannah. Bodycam footage captures officers taking control of the scene and informing Kewan that they have a warrant to search the apartment.
Throughout the interaction, Kewan repeatedly asks officers why they are there and what he allegedly did. Investigators eventually explain that they are looking into digital files they believe were uploaded through an account connected to him.
Kewan acknowledges that the account belongs to him but denies intentionally searching for or uploading anything concerning. Instead, he tells investigators that other people had sent videos to him and suggests that could explain how the material became associated with his account.
Investigators, however, allege that approximately 10 videos were uploaded through the account within a relatively short period of time.
After questioning Kewan and executing the search warrant, officers placed him under arrest. He was ultimately charged with 10 serious counts connected to the alleged online activity and was detained while awaiting further court proceedings.
What started with a cyber tip eventually led investigators directly to Kewan’s apartment. The bodycam footage captures his reaction as officers arrive unexpectedly, explain the investigation and eventually take him into custody.
The charges remain allegations, and the case had not reached trial at the time of the report.
