Pakistan’s federal government has announced a tougher policy regarding protests and sit-ins in Islamabad.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the government has decided to permanently end the practice of protest sit-ins in the federal capital and that political groups would not be allowed to enter Islamabad for disruptive protests.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has also said that violent groups would not be allowed to march towards Islamabad or block roads.

The Islamabad High Court has previously ruled that no political party has a lawful right to obstruct public movement or block roads in the federal capital.
