00:01It raises serious questions about why the government back in 2024 announced that they
00:06were going to develop and legislate an AI Safety Act and then it seems under pressure
00:12from industry just shelved that plan.
00:14It looks pretty silly now given what we're seeing with AI.
00:18They also had an AI expert panel that was advising on AI providing this sort of advice.
00:26One of the things they said is that we need continuous monitoring of high-risk government
00:31websites and data sets.
00:33Clearly that hasn't been happening so it's great to see the PM on the world stage saying
00:38that we need global cooperation on this.
00:40We absolutely do.
00:41This is a huge challenge facing us but it's a bit rich where at home you've shelved plans
00:46for an AI Safety Act.
00:47This is not a new problem.
00:49For many years now experts have been saying we need action on this.
00:52The crossbench has been pushing them in the last parliament and I got an inquiry up into
00:57AI.
00:59It was very clear that we needed these sorts of guardrails.
01:01The government then said well we'll have some guidelines, we'll put them on a website, that's
01:04enough for data centres.
01:05Clearly it's not.
01:06Now they're scrambling and in the meantime we're seeing dozens and dozens of data centres
01:11being approved with basically none of these guardrails.
01:16I think clearly there are very big questions around social licence.

01:25built 20 metres from their front door.
