US President Donald Trump personally welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday, Sept. 23, as the Chinese leader arrived for a state visit to Washington.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at the military base in a rare planeside welcome, with a red carpet and military honors marking the Chinese president’s arrival.
Xi’s visit to Washington, his first in more than a decade, comes as the United States and China navigate tensions over trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, and other global issues.
