00:01South Africans in Pretoria are hoping to have cooked up a new Guinness World Record.
00:08Hundreds gathered on Thursday to fire up their grills and attempt the largest simultaneous barbecue ever recorded.
00:16Alright guys, so we are here at the World's Biggest Bride presented by Big Save.
00:21So we've got 500 brides lined up behind me and all around this park.
00:25We've got 3,000 people waiting patiently to be released into this area.
00:29And once they are, we're going to set up Bouravours. Everybody's got some drinks that they can enjoy.
00:35And yeah, we're just going to break the Guinness World Record for the most amount of people brine at the
00:38same time.
00:40The attempt took place on Heritage Day, a national holiday that celebrates the country's diverse cultural heritage.
00:48Brine has been part of our culture since way back. We love brine. We do brine, family gatherings.
00:59Or brine or whatever. So it's some sort of thing that keeps us connected.
01:04And we are here at the Biggest World Bride.
01:08The day is also known informally as Bride Day, named after the popular South African tradition of gathering around barbecue.
01:16Right now, I'm just reviewing the evidence. We're just confirming the final numbers and getting statements from our stewards.
01:26Overall, the guidelines for the Guinness World Records attempt were that everyone needs to be barbecuing simultaneously for a minimum
01:37of five minutes.
01:38And if anyone leaves, they do get disqualified from the attempt. And the minimum to break today was 2,220.
01:46The Guinness World Records said every participant had to barbecue simultaneously for at least five minutes to be counted.
