00:51And I think having the meeting at this time, these two meetings, in fact, signifies that there's an attempt by
00:59the two presidents, as well as the countries, to have a level of stabilization in their relationship.
01:08President Xi has talked of building a constructive strategic stability.
01:14And President Trump has emphasized that he's going to, when he went to China, it was about relationship, building a
01:24relationship.
01:25Beyond the photo calls, we know what's on the agenda.
01:30There are some pretty hard talks ahead on trade, technology, global influence and the rest of it.
01:35I wonder, is the real significance of this meeting about trying to establish, to manage that competition rather than trying
01:46to fix the difficulties?
01:48There's a subtle difference, isn't there?

01:51I think you're absolutely right.
01:53It's about managing the competition.
01:56You know, this relationship is really a structural competition between the two great powers.
02:06And each is seeking dominance, actually, across all sectors.
02:12And that is very hard to resolve.
02:15And it will carry on for a very long time.
02:18But both powers have come to the realization that you've really got to manage this competition.
02:24Otherwise, you know, it really creates so much disruption to themselves and the rest of the world.
02:30And I think there's an attempt to try to put up some guardrails.
