00:10CCTV footage of that last moment of the candidate Sahil walking towards his room.
00:19Now first I want to get you exclusive CCTV footage from the exam hall. These are disturbing visuals for some.
00:29We urge viewer discretion especially when you look at the story in the wider perspective. These images very clearly show
00:37Professor Dula. He spotted Sahil. Watch that image. There's an examination going on. He spotted Sahil. Apparently this is the
00:49information.
00:49That he was apparently uploading an exam paper onto ChatGPT on his mobile phone. These images are seen. This is
01:01the version that we are getting from IIT Bombay. The CCTV image watch. That's the professor. He's watching an examination
01:11that is currently underway.
01:12And he watches a candidate apparently uploading some information on ChatGPT. Towards the end of this footage you will see
01:24the candidate being taken out. And towards the end Sahil is being escorted out.
01:31Sahil was 22 years old. He was a second year student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. Subsequently
01:42he was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room at the Pawai campus. This happened last Friday.
01:51This apparently after he was caught using a mobile phone trying to access AI artificial intelligence during a mid semester
02:02examination. I want to quickly cut across to my colleague Akshita Nand Gopal for more on the story.
02:09This CCTV footage seems to add the perspective that so far is not very common in terms of perception or
02:19conversation. The reason the professor escorted the child out of the candidate out of the classroom. What more can you
02:28tell us Akshita?
02:28So we have carefully analysed the sequence that we have Gaurav. The exam itself starts at about 12.30. This
02:36CCTV clip that we have is from 12.38. And when we play it for you that's Sahil right there
02:40in the white t-shirt sitting right in the first bench.
02:44We will play that from the beginning when Sahil is seated there. You know from the angle of the CCTV
02:50we can't see the phone but you can see him writing.
02:52And then a professor, Professor Dula actually walks that way, comes back once he spots Sahil having a phone, comes
02:58back to him, questions him.
03:00You can see all the other students looking up wondering what's happening. Sahil is told to leave.
03:05You can see him rustling through the papers looking at what really he's got there.
03:09And then finally he's made to get up and leave from that particular exam hall.
03:14The allegation that we've been hearing through and through, Gaurav, while we've covered this story, is that Sahil was uploading
03:20the question paper on chat GPT.
03:22And that's how he was caught red-handed by Professor Dula. Is that something that we can verify with the
03:26CCTV footage? Not really.
03:28But what we can show you is the sequence where Sahil is seated there. He's writing, he's working on his
03:33paper.
03:34You can't really spot the phone but he seems to be looking down constantly and writing.
03:40And then the professor who walks by that way comes back when he spots that, you know, something's not right.
03:46He pulls up Sahil, he questions him. You can see a bit of an interaction there.
03:50What was said, again we don't know, that's not clear in the CCTV because remember that the other, the counter
03:55-allegation,
03:55is that he was discriminated against and that rude words were spoken.
04:00Now we don't know exactly what was said, but clearly Sahil was pulled up and told leave immediately.
04:06This was at about 12.38 in the afternoon, 10 minutes into the exam kicking off.
04:11It was on the same day of 18 September, unfortunately, that he died by suicide, right after he was pulled
04:18up in this exam.
04:19This is a clearer view that I'm showing you right now.
04:21You can see him writing. This is what I meant by he's looking down.
04:24The professor comes up. The professor sees him there and pulls him up.
04:28He actually goes back, sees Sahil from that angle, he's seated in the front row and comes back.
04:33Presumably Professor Dula there pulling up Sahil for a phone that he had.
04:39That's the version that we've heard that he was using ChatGPT.
04:41He was uploading, taking a photo of the question paper, uploading it onto ChatGPT, which is when he was caught
04:46red-handed.
04:47And then he's asked to immediately leave the exam hall.
04:50So this is the CCTV footage that we have from inside the classroom, Gaurav, which we've been able to analyze
04:55those few seconds.
04:57Unfortunately, there's no audio, so we can't hear the conversation.
05:00But very clearly, as he's seated there, writing, looks down, looks up.
05:04The professor seems to spot a phone and tells him to leave.
