00:11So when he first heard the Quest database had been hacked, he wasn't entirely surprised he was affected.
00:18It sounds like everything was stolen and it feels like they just left the door open and someone came in
00:23and took all their data.
00:24The company initially told customers the leak was limited mainly to names and emails.
00:30But last week it revealed the breach was much broader, involving 100,000 passport and driver licence numbers,
00:38nearly 300,000 credit card numbers and 47,000 CVV security codes.
00:45Altogether, nearly 2 million people were impacted.
00:49Customers were warned passports and licences may need replacing.
00:53It's going to cost around $350, $400, but then there's the added cost of my time.
00:59At best they'll be compensated for the cost of the passports, but they haven't even offered that.
01:03Compromised passports can still be used for travel, but experts warn the stolen information can be dangerous in the wrong
01:10hands.
01:11They could be used for fraudulent purposes, that they could be used to open up accounts, do some identity theft.
01:17By law, companies can hold on to customer data for as long as they say they need it.
01:23A hotel doesn't need your ID for any longer than the kind of 10 seconds that it takes for someone
01:29to check you in.
01:30So they really should have destroyed that data before it was leaked.
01:34Customers now left to pick up the pieces.
