'16 OF 24 IS NOW REVERSED'
Presiding Officer Chiz Escudero said his previous ruling requiring 16 of 24 votes to convict an impeachable officer is now reversed following the Senate impeachment court’s vote.
The Senate impeachment court voted to exclude senators who are detained, being sought by law, facing medical or physical conditions, or otherwise beyond the Senate’s coercive powers from the basis for determining the conviction threshold.
Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Bong Go, Imee Marcos, Camille Villar, and Robin Padilla did not participate in the vote. As a result, the previous 16-vote threshold no longer applies.
