00:22Ms. Passat-Bissessa expressed gratitude for TNT to serve on the Security Council for a second time in TNT's history.

00:57We intend to place particular emphasis on the curbing of the illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons.

01:18Today, I want to agree with President Trump that we are now talking about the call for practical AI to
01:24be renamed Super Intelligence, SI.
01:27We commit to that.
01:30Mr. President, the illicit flow of firearms and narcotics is a major security concern for Trinidad and Tobago and the
01:39wider Caribbean.
01:39Although the region doesn't manufacture these weapons, the availability fuels gang violence, organized crime, drug trafficking, and loss of life
01:51across our societies.
01:53While serving on the Council, Trinidad and Tobago will advocate for greater international cooperation to address the sources, movement, and
02:02diversion of illicit weapons,
02:04stronger tracing mechanisms, information sharing, border and maritime cooperation, and deeper cooperation among source, transit, and destination countries to disrupt
02:18weapons, narcotics, and essential financial flows.
02:22Trinidad and Tobago will bring the experience of the Caribbean to the Council, where the impact of illicit farms demonstrates
02:29how transnational organized crime can threaten the security and stability of states, even in the absence of traditional armed conflict.
02:38On the priority area of superintelligence and global security, Trinidad and Tobago will encourage a greater consideration of the implications
02:50of SI and emerging technologies for international peace and security,
02:56including cyberattacks, disinformation, and deepfakes, autonomous weapons, criminal misuse of SI, and threats to critical infrastructure.
03:08We acknowledge that these technologies can support conflict prevention, early warning, peacekeeping, and protection of civilians.
03:19Trinidad and Tobago will advocate for an approach that safeguards international security without closing off innovation, development, and opportunity,
03:30and that ensures developing countries have a meaningful role in shaping the rules for this new technological era.
03:40Mr. President, the situation in Haiti remains of particular concern, not just for us in the region, but I think
03:47across the world.
03:48Trinidad and Tobago stands in full support of international efforts to help restore security and stability in Haiti, whilst maintaining
03:58that the country's political future must ultimately be Haitian-led and Haitian-owned.
04:05Security assistance is necessary, but lasting stability will also require functioning institutions, economic opportunities, and a credible political process.
04:18So therefore, therefore, as Trinidad and Tobago prepares to serve on the Security Council, we will continue to bring attention
04:29to Haiti and to the wider security concerns of the Caribbean,
04:33whilst working with CARICOM and other international partners towards practical and sustainable solutions.
