The OIJ warns that limited resources may force difficult choices, potentially delaying or preventing vital forensic analysis and even affecting their ability to respond to crime scenes. This could mean fewer vehicles available for investigations, body recovery missions, and search warrants.
Furthermore, officials highlight the escalating risk to their own staff. With an increasing number of bulletproof vests expiring, the OIJ may be forced to pull officers from high-risk operations against organized crime, jeopardizing both public safety and officer integrity.
The interconnectedness of the justice system means these cuts extend beyond the OIJ, potentially hindering the work of the Public Ministry and judges. Authorities are now anxiously awaiting a decision on the upcoming budget.
