00:07Tuesday on the sidelines of the 81st U.N. General Assembly.
00:10In his address to the UNGA, Trump said Washington will begin constructing military bases on the island nation very soon,
00:18ushering in what he calls a new era of Arctic security.
00:21We will immediately begin the process of developing a large military presence in the appropriate locations. We will be building
00:31two very major military bases.
00:35Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen noted that the deal will significantly boost Western security in the Arctic.
00:42Mr. President, you have been very clear. You don't want adversaries to come too close. I fully agree. And with
00:54this deal, they are not.
00:56We are making sure that they will not be allowed to get any control or significant influence in Greenland.
01:04And we are making sure that more allies are present in the Arctic at the same time.
01:10Greenland's premier also touted the landmark deal as mutually beneficial to all.
01:15We are truly pleased with the result that strengthened our shared security and strengthened our bond as close allies.
01:22This agreement is historical.
01:25And it is about taking shared responsibility for a secure America, a secure Greenland, with mutual respect and a peaceful
01:35Arctic.
01:36This is a win-win-win agreement.
01:40U.S., Danish and Greenlandic officials have been negotiating the security framework for months behind the scenes.
01:46Trump first laid his eyes on the territory shortly after his return to the White House
01:51and even suggested Washington could resort to military force to take it over in the case of a deal not
