00:36Hey everybody, I'm Christian Bryan. Hope your Tuesday's off to a good start. Let's get right into it.
00:41President Trump takes the world stage this morning addressing the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
00:46And there's plenty for these leaders to talk about.
00:48The U.S. is nearing seven months of war with Iran.
00:51Oil prices are still hovering around $100 a barrel.
00:55And governments are wrestling with how, or whether, to put global rules around AI.
01:01Trump also comes here after scaling back U.S. financial support for the U.N., an organization he's criticized repeatedly.
01:08Iran will be a big part of his day.
01:10After the speech, Trump is set to meet with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United
01:17Arab Emirates with the war and recent Iran-backed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia on the agenda.
01:23He'll also meet with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takeuchi, and have a more informal
01:31meeting with Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez.
01:34Then Thursday, Trump meets Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington.
01:39A group of Democratic lawmakers is calling on Trump to confront Xi over what they say is Beijing's support for
01:45Iran during the war.
01:48CNN, MSNOW, and Politico will be back in court tomorrow trying to get their reporters back inside the White House.
01:55The three outlets are suing the Trump administration after their credentials were revoked over the weekend.
02:00They're asking a federal judge for a temporary restraining order that would restore their access while the case plays out.
02:07The outlets say the White House took away their credentials because President Trump objected to their reporting, and they argue
02:13that violates the First Amendment and their due process rights.
02:17Vice President J.D. Vance says the White House isn't stopping any of them from reporting.
02:21It's taking away what he calls special access.
02:24So, he's not banning media outlets. What he's doing is saying, we're not going to give you special access to
02:30the White House if you engage in what is effectively propaganda.
02:33We have to remember, those three outlets account, about 92 percent of the stories that they have on the President
02:38of the United States, on the administration, are negative.
02:41Well, they can still report on the Trump White House. They can still get the public reports.
02:45They can still, of course, talk to people in the administration and outside the administration.
02:49What the President has said is, we're not going to give you special access inside the White House.
02:53Trump himself called it a ban when he announced it Friday.
02:56He says the three outlets report what he calls fake news.
02:59The White House says access is a privilege, not a right.
03:03The outlets say the White House revoked their credentials, quote, because it objected to our reporting.
03:08Their reporters have been working from outside the White House complex since this weekend.
03:13CNN was also removed from its turn in the TV pool Monday.
03:17The Trump administration has until today to respond to the lawsuit.
03:21Then tomorrow afternoon, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly will hold a hearing on the outlet's request to get their
03:28access restored.
03:29Kelly is a Trump appointee, and he's handled a White House press pass fight before.
03:34In 2018, he ordered the Trump White House to restore CNN reporter Jim Acosta's credentials after finding he had not
03:41been given proper due process.
03:44This morning, airports across the Northeast are still trying to work through a backlog after a damaged communications line canceled
03:52more than 1,000 flights Monday and delayed thousands more.
03:56Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the problem at a key air traffic control facility in Philadelphia has been fixed and
04:03flights are moving again.
04:04But the backlog isn't gone yet.
04:07Newark took the biggest hit, with more than 600 flights in and out of the airport canceled.
04:11More than 200 were canceled at Philadelphia International, with more disruptions at LaGuardia and Kennedy.
04:18Duffy says it will take time to clear the remaining delays and is urging anyone flying today to check with
04:24their airline before heading to the airport.
04:26No criminal charges in the death of Nolan Wells.
04:30He's the Mississippi teen who disappeared during a Fourth of July trip with friends.
04:35A grand jury says it found no evidence that anyone committed a crime.
04:39The 18-year-old's body was found in the waters off Horn Island two days after he went missing.
04:45Authorities had previously said they believed the college football player drowned.
04:49Now, the 23-person grand jury says the location and condition of Wells' body, along with when and how it
04:56was found, were consistent with drowning.
04:59The panel also says it found, quote, no credible evidence to support public allegations that anyone engaged in criminal conduct
05:06connected to his death.
05:08Wells' family attorney, Ben Crump, says the grand jury's decision still doesn't answer how Wells died.
05:14He says, quote, the public still deserves a clear account supported by records, evidence, and independent scrutiny.
05:23California isn't waiting for winter.
05:26Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency months before the worst of this El Nino is expected to arrive.
05:33The order lets the state start moving resources now, including sandbags and pumps, and get road, flood, and snow equipment
05:40into position.
05:41The National Guard is also being prepared to help with flood response and search and rescue if needed.
05:48And California has already had a preview.
05:50Earlier this month, a tropical storm brought heavy rain and strong surf to Southern California, damaging homes from Orange County
05:57to Malibu.
05:58Laguna Beach and Dana Point declared local emergencies.
06:02In Long Beach, the storms destroyed parts of a seawall and historic boardwalk.
06:06Now, forecasters say there's a 75% chance this El Nino reaches historic strength.
06:13El Nino starts with unusually warm water in the eastern Pacific, and for California, it can mean more frequent and
06:20intense storms.
06:21That doesn't guarantee a wet winter or any one particular storm, but the state is preparing for the possibility of
06:28heavy rain, flooding, mountain snow, and more coastal damage in the months ahead.
06:34Finally this morning, how do you get baby raccoons ready for life on their own?
06:39Apparently, you send them to boot camp.
06:41This is Woodside Wildlife Rescue in past Christian Mississippi, where rescued raccoons learn how to make it on their own.
06:48Many arrive here sick or injured, and without their mothers around, the staff has to teach them what mom normally
06:55would.
06:55Raccoon boot camp, it's fun.
06:59They learn from their calls, their predator calls, all the way to foraging for food, swimming, lots of swimming, lots
07:11of swimming and climbing.
07:14And they kind of get to know the terrain, you know, to know what's safe, what's not safe.
07:19Woodside opened in 2019, and the Associated Press says it's rescued more than 70 kits so far this year, and
07:26one of their last lessons is a good one.
07:28The raccoons have to escape from a volunteer they don't know, teaching them to steer clear of people and traps
07:34once they're back in the wild.
07:36So, swimming, climbing, escaping from strangers, they go from fun and games to shock therapy, but whatever it takes to
07:44get them back in their feet, right?
