00:00Hi, my name is Porya Torkin, and I'm the studio head of Bungie here in Bellevue, Washington.
00:06And I'm Josh Dean, head of product at Bungie and GM of Marathon.
00:09We're both really grateful to be here talking with you today.
00:12For more than 30 years, Bungie has built these amazing worlds and communities have formed
00:16around them.
00:17Over the last few years, we lost sight of that.
00:20The consequences have been real.
00:22We lost trust, we lost incredible colleagues, and our ambitions as a studio stalled.
00:28We chased vision without enough focus on what players loved.
00:33And that's on us.
00:34We own that.
00:36We haven't just heard your feedback.
00:38We understand the anger, the disappointment with us.
00:41Just seeing how broken trust has hurt you all, our team, that led to our destiny home being
00:46abandoned and serving priorities that haven't served you all.
00:50It's just a road filled with a lot of failed promises.
00:53We're not asking for your trust.
00:54We know we have to earn it.
00:56And to do that, we need our games to deliver in ways that exceed your expectations of what
01:01you've come to love about the games that we make.
01:04And that starts with destiny.
01:06Bungie wouldn't be what it is today without it.
01:10It's the foundation upon which everything else rests.
01:13And we are absolutely not done with destiny.
01:16We have more stories to tell, but we have to do it right and give our teams the time they
01:20need to do justice to this amazing universe.
01:23We want to return destiny to its original promise, to return to awe-inspiring mystery,
01:28the sense of discovery, and the promise of a community of guardians rallying together,
01:34raging against impossible odds.
01:36But that has to start with restoring what's rightfully yours.
01:39It's going to take some time.
01:41I wish we could just flip a freaking switch.
01:43But we're going to commit to unvaulting the Destiny 2 campaigns, the destinations, the
01:48raids that never should have been ripped away to begin with.
01:51They were an essential part of our journey together and definitely a place where we built
01:55memories with you all.
01:56That first step, that restoration, will hopefully lay the foundation for how we reforge into
02:02new Destiny stories and games that you all deserve and that we want to create.
02:07Marathon is an important part of shaping where Bungie goes next, but it isn't and never was
02:13intended to replace Destiny.
02:15It launched a strong critical and player reception, but it didn't reach as many players as we'd hoped.
02:21But we also know and understand that the game needs to evolve.
02:25So we're going to anchor on what makes Marathon special, but evolve it beyond the genre constraints
02:30that we placed on it.
02:31We're going to expand Marathon into a deeper survival experience that gives players more
02:36ways to take on its dangerous alien world.
02:39Our goal by the end of year one for Marathon is to preserve what you already love, but find ways
02:45to provide players with more agency in how you play, whether in PvE or PvP.
02:49How will you build your arsenal of runners that fits your play style?
02:53So over the next couple of months, our team's going to share our road ahead
02:56as we build Marathon in partnership with you all.
03:00It's really important to us that no matter your background, your play style, your skill level,
03:05we find better ways to hear from you as we get back to where we need to be,
03:09making games that you want to play.
03:11We've made commitments like these before.
03:13We understand the skepticism.
03:15We spend too much time trying to do too much and that came at a real cost.
03:20Stability does not mean shrinking our ambition.
03:23It means focusing on the things that you want to see from us and making sure that our vision
03:28matches our reality.
03:30How we bring this new Bungie to life that you're speaking to has to be through the spirit of putting
03:35players above everything else.
03:36We have to find a way back to making games that we want to play, but with you at the
03:41center.
03:42We have to meet you where you are, build what you want, and reforge our creative soul to prove
03:48that Bungie is still capable of building worlds that are part of your life, your time, your stories,
03:53and most importantly, your communities.
03:55We've simplified our priorities, we've reduced competing initiatives, we've empowered teams to
04:01make decisions closer to development.
04:04Stability comes from focus.
04:06This isn't just about creating another service, another train stop, but to re-establish a relationship
04:12with you.
04:12And to do that, our mission is crystal clear.
04:15We need to restore destiny to a place you can call home again, evolve Marathon for more of you to
04:21enjoy,
04:21and to create a new, inspiring future for Bungie, no matter what.
04:26Rebuilding trust is going to take time.
04:28And we're not going to do it with words.
04:31We're going to do it through the games that we make and how we show up for our players.
04:35We still have hard work ahead of us to build a Bungie that is healthy,
04:39sustainable, and able to be around for a long time.
04:42But we believe deeply in the studio, and the people here, and the games that we are building.
04:48Now, we have to prove it.
04:50Appreciate you all so much, and a sincere thank you for being on this journey with us.
04:55Please keep fighting for what you believe in.
04:58Please keep us accountable, and we'll definitely chat more soon.
