00:00We're closing in on three years since October 7th, and still Columbia University remains
00:05barricaded with its gates closed to the public.
00:07Only current seniors can remember a time when Columbia University, which has long been a
00:12part of the Morningside Heights community, was actually open to the public and didn't
00:16require them to scan their ID card as though they were going into some restricted zone
00:22every time they went in and out of campus.
00:24The school has a brand new president who says that this is an issue that she wants to take
00:27on.
00:28However, some students are frustrated because she is forming a committee to decide how and
00:33if they can reopen campus, and there's no clear deadline.
00:36And while some people say that this is necessary to keep Jewish students safe on campus, I did
00:40speak to one Jewish student who previously felt unsafe and felt the need for closed gates,
00:45but had changed his mind.
00:47He said it's no longer necessary, that it's a constant reminder of the protests and encampment
00:52that went down on campus, and it also makes people feel that Jewish students are somehow
00:56forcing the school to remain closed.
