00:01I work for New York City Transit as an operator for 14 years.
00:04I was assaulted on April 4th at 8 o'clock in the evening.
00:09Gentleman approached me and assaulted me.
00:12At the moment, I was making a turnaround, a route that I had been doing for the past
00:17few years, and he decided to go around traffic and we made contact.
00:23I immediately came and stopped and got out the bus to see if he was okay.
00:28As I was talking to him, he did not show any aggression.
00:31He walked up to me and he asked me for my driver's license.
00:35I told him I would give him the information.
00:37I have to move my bus.
00:40As I started to walk away, he grabbed me and slammed me into the ground, caused me to have
00:46a concussion, brain bleed, and a shoulder problem that I have now that I had to get operated
00:54for.
00:55As I was laying on the ground, he kept on banging me into the ground.
01:01Eventually, he left the scene.
01:03He was caught a few days later.
01:05Then he was on bond.
01:08He was sent home.
01:11This month or last month coming up, I was told that he committed another crime in the Bronx.
01:17He was let go for that crime.
01:19The judge did not look into if he was pending for anything else.
01:25He is back out on the street.
01:28From my understanding that the person that he assaulted works for the fire department,
01:32he should pay for his consequences.
01:34It's an insult to everybody, not just me.
01:38Now my family and I have been suffering.
01:40I have been not working and I have been trying to survive day by day.
01:44My message is that we have to change the laws because this person or anybody that commits
01:52a crime should not be out for a second crime in a short period of time or should not be
01:58out
01:58at all.
