00:00But it turns out, Dave, everybody is looking up at the Miami Hurricanes quarterback
00:06who was in action Friday night, started the football game 23 of 23, 24 of 24
00:13against Wake Forest, finished 30 of 34, no turnovers, three touchdown passes.
00:20Canes win, but in our little world, no cover for the Miami Hurricanes,
00:26and I know that hurt a lot of people's wallets out there.
00:30It did.
00:30I actually had a buddy text me last night from down in Miami that said,
00:33hey, Miami can't cover against these ACC schools.
00:36This should actually drop in the polls.
00:37That's what the committee should look at, not the actual rankings.
00:40And I LOL'd because I understood why he said that.
00:43Miami showed a different team last night.
00:45At the beginning, it was typical Miami, throw the ball over the field,
00:48use your athletes and get out to a big lead.
00:50But then later on, it was a dink and dunk fest.
00:53It was like that's not the Miami team that we expect to see with all their athletes out there.
00:57I know Tony left a little bit with an injury, but you don't expect that Mensa's just going to go
01:03dink and dunk to 24 consecutive completions.
01:06But, you know, they got it done.
01:08They allowed more points than I thought they would allow to Wake Forest,
01:10especially in the third quarter.
01:12But they're not going to be tested.
01:14And, you know, I know Miami keeps playing these Thursday and Friday night games on national TV.
01:17That's all anyone's talking about.
01:19And they're no doubt they're good.
01:20I mean, there's talent everywhere.
01:21They're good, but they're just not going to be tested.
01:24But give them credit for going on the road and winning a game that you and I talked about it
01:28last week.
01:28You know, sometimes Mario loses these games.
01:31So they got it done.
01:32Checkmark on to the next one.
01:34But I really want to see when they get tested.
01:36If they go to South Bend and beat Notre Dame, then it's like, all right, this is the best team
01:40in the country.
01:41But it's just the ACC.
01:42It's just so bad.
01:44So bad, Kevin.
01:44Very uninspiring start from that conference.
01:48But for Miami, I think you mentioned something that I do think is, and by the way, I don't think
01:54this is why Miami has scheduled these weekday games.
01:57But boy, has it helped Darian Mensah.
02:00Because if we zoom out respectfully, Stanford and Wake Forest, who cares?
02:06Nobody will watch these teams moving forward outside, you know, Stanford Week Zero.
02:11These performances, I'm not even trying to.
02:13Again, I actually think what Mensah did against Wake Forest is now being wildly overstated when you kind of look
02:18at the dust settling.
02:20But the weekday island games for Miami, I think, has really boosted their profile a ton.
02:29You had a late night island game for an Oregon Ducks team, Dave, that I don't even want to say
02:37needed a win.
02:38Because, I mean, they were 58-and-a-half point favorites.
02:41But, boy, oh, boy, did they enter this game feeling like they needed something.
02:4749-0 at half.
02:4984-0 final score.
02:53Unfortunately for Dan Lanning, that doesn't matter.
02:55What does was a loss last week at Oklahoma State.
03:00As a 24-and-a-half point favorite.
03:0339-31.
03:05This defense carved up last week by Mastermaker and Co.
03:12Yeah, I'm throwing out what they did last night.
03:14It doesn't matter.
03:15You play Portland State A&M of the South.
03:17It doesn't really matter who.
03:18Like, they were going to come out there and they were going to score a million points to prove a
03:21point.
03:21They looked bad the first two games of the season.
03:24The defense getting carved up last week.
03:25And what I noticed was, all right, the defense is not playing well, but then you got some stops late.
03:31And Dante Moore and the offense had three different shots to win that game.
03:35And they didn't get a first down.
03:37Like, forget about, oh, they got all down the goal line and threw in.
03:39No, they didn't get a first down.
03:41So, what Oregon has done the first two weeks of the season really worries me.
03:45Because that loss is so bad that come committee time, I don't think there's another loss out there for them
03:52that they can afford.
03:52Because you get two losses, and one of them is the Oklahoma State.
03:56I think the committee says you're out.
03:58Now, 10-2 Big Ten team, we could discuss that a different way.
04:02But that's a bad loss.
04:04Now, Florida State gets in last year with a bad – sorry, Alabama gets in last year with a bad
04:08loss to Florida State.
04:09So, you never know.
04:10But the margin of error for Oregon team that we thought was going to win the national title is down
04:15to almost nothing.
04:16Because you can't have that loss on your resume and then say – tell the committee, hey, we're one of
04:22the best teams in the country.
04:23The good news for them is now we have 12 teams get in instead of four, instead of eight.
04:28And this game absolutely means nothing if you go to a 2014 playoff, which we're not going to discuss.
04:33But the margin of error is none.
04:35Now, there's a reason you have to go out there and win 84-0.
04:37It really doesn't matter.
04:38But they have to show that they're better than what they showed last week against Oklahoma State if they want
04:44to make that playoff.
