00:28says gives Washington, quote, permanent control over Greenland's security and other security-related
00:35needs. But there is a major question hanging over the deal. What exactly has been agreed?
00:41Trump says the United States will have the ability to do what is necessary to secure
00:46and defend Greenland, and that no American adversary will be allowed to maintain a military
00:52presence or make sensitive investments there without Washington's approval. He also says
00:58the agreement comes at no cost to the United States. The announcement follows months of
01:03extraordinary tensions between Washington and Copenhagen. Trump had repeatedly argued that
01:09Greenland's strategic Arctic location made American control essential for national security. He had
01:16even threatened military action while pushing the idea of acquiring or taking control of the territory.
01:22Now, Denmark says a deal has been reached. Prime Minister Mehta Fredriksson says the agreement
01:28strengthens security in the Arctic and North Atlantic while recognizing the sovereignty and
01:34territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the right of Greenland's people to self-determination.
01:40Greenland's government has also welcomed the agreement, saying it recognizes Greenland's interests
01:46and its place in international cooperation. But there is an important caveat. The full text of the
01:53agreement has not yet been released. And while Trump describes the deal as giving America permanent
01:58control over Greenland's security, Danish officials have not publicly detailed all the powers Trump says
02:05the agreement provides. Fredriksson says the agreement is expected to be signed at the United Nations
02:11General Assembly next week and must still go through the necessary parliamentary procedures
02:17before taking effect. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called it a historic deal and says it
02:24permanently addresses Washington's national security concerns in Greenland. The agreement also reportedly
02:30seeks to prevent rivals such as Russia and China from establishing military positions or making
02:37sensitive investments in Greenland without American approval. So after months of threats, pressure and
02:44diplomatic tension, Washington and Copenhagen now appear to have found a framework for Greenland's
02:49security. But until the agreement is formally signed and its full text is made public, one question
02:56remains, how much control has the United States actually secured over Greenland?
