00:00Everybody knows how to see the Hollywood sign.
00:02Look up.
00:03But if you actually want to get close,
00:05LA makes things complicated.
00:07So we spent a day testing
00:08some of the most popular ways to see it,
00:11from Hollywood Boulevard to Griffith Observatory
00:13to hiking all the way up there.
00:15And after testing every route,
00:17the best way to get close was surprisingly clear.
00:20The hardest route isn't the best route.
00:22One way to reach the back of the sign
00:24is the Cahuenga Peak hike.
00:26It's about three miles
00:27with a lot of steep exposed climbing.
00:30Not an easy time.
00:31But you also don't need to do any of that.
00:34Come from the other side.
00:35If getting close is the goal,
00:37the better hack is the Duranda and Mulholland side of the mountain.
00:41There's no visitor parking at the entrance,
00:43so you'll need to Uber up there.
00:45You'll already get an extremely close front-facing view.
00:48But now, you can follow Mount Lee Drive up the mountain.
00:51You end up at the same backside viewpoint
00:54without climbing over a mountain to get there.
00:56And if you want to get even closer to the front,
00:59keep walking past the houses from the Mulholland and Duranda access point,
01:03where the trail continues up underneath it.
01:05You can get incredibly close to the back of the sign.
01:08And pretty close to the front, too.
01:10And you won't spend your afternoon climbing over an entire mountain
01:13just to discover there was a road on the other side.
