Apple fans flock to Fifth Avenue flagship as new iPhone goes on sale
Apple fans lined up outside the company's Fifth Avenue flagship store in Manhattan on Friday (September 18) as the new iPhone 18 went on sale, with customers citing camera upgrades and new artificial intelligence features among the biggest draws.
Apple CEO John Ternus opened the store's doors and greeted waiting customers before crowds streamed inside to see the latest devices.
The iPhone remains Apple's flagship product and a key driver of the company's sales. Investors and analysts are watching the iPhone 18 rollout closely for signs that new AI features, camera upgrades and hardware improvements can spur a new wave of upgrades from users holding on to older devices for longer.
Among the most talked-about features was the iPhone 18's variable-aperture camera. Customers upgrading from older models said they were eager to test improvements in performance, charging and AI capabilities.
The launch extended well beyond New York, with Apple making the iPhone 18 available in more than 65 countries and regions on Friday, underscoring the global importance of the company's flagship product.
