00:00There's a few motives, I think, to that as well. I mean, on one level, it is, you know, no
00:05military wants to admit when it is failing or has failed on something. There's also the sort of macho culture
00:10that Pete Hegseth has tried to bring into the Pentagon, you know, rebranding the Department of Defense, the Department of
00:14War. And the acting secretary of the Navy, Hong Kao, has really dismissed in particular the mental health reports, you
00:21know, the reports of multiple incidents in which sailors had to be prevented from jumping overboard.
00:25He accused the mainstream media of trying to turn our warriors into victims. There's like a real sensitivity around the
00:31idea that there could even be a mental health impact, you know, trying to project this image that U.S.
00:35sailors are a different breed and they don't have mental health issues like other people that would that, you know,
00:41you might expect after being trapped at sea for nine plus months.
00:44But also, I think the other thing motivating them to play it down is that there are wider implications here
00:50that this could be the new norm that we're going to see more and more deployments like this. This isn't
00:54at all unique.
