00:02Emotional scenes at Paradise Country here today where Mary the Tasmanian devil has returned home
00:08at last. The two-year-old marsupial escaped from the park in June this year after taking an
00:14abnormally large leap out of her enclosure. It sparked a dramatic two-week search for Mary
00:20which included sniffer dogs, thermal imaging drones, as well as humane traps to try and find
00:26Mary and bring her safely back home. Now she was found a fortnight later in Bushland about two
00:32kilometres from the park but she was in an unstable condition and was diagnosed with inflammation of
00:38the brain and in the three months since she's been going through a rest and recovery process. Now
00:43wildlife staff here at Paradise Country said they shed a few tears as Mary came into the enclosure
00:48and sniffed around. She was a little bit hesitant, a little bit quiet but they say that in the weeks
00:52ahead she should get used to this outdoor habitat again. Now they do say that Mary is a natural-born
00:59climber as we've seen from her escapades in June this year but the park has put in in place certain
01:06measures to ensure that this cheeky Tasmanian devil doesn't escape again. We've domed the ledges so
01:12we've made them nice and curved. We've also re-landscaped the habitat space as well so it's
01:17got all of the trees nice and central. It is the best day of my life and our life here
01:21at Paradise
01:22Country. It's so good to have her back on exhibit. Now Mary was a little bit wobbly when she came
01:26into the enclosure today but staff say this is all part of her recovery process as she gets used to
01:31that outdoor habitat again but certainly scenes of celebration here at Paradise Country today as
01:37Mary the Tasmanian devil returns home.
