00:03Is that just a pinch me moment?
00:05Absolutely.
00:06I joined the show last year and I think there were like six nominations or
00:0912, 13, so I can't remember exactly.
00:11But it's definitely more than doubled this year.
00:14And so I remember watching them from afar, their Emmy campaign and
00:19everything, and thinking, I don't know how they're doing this while we're filming.
00:23And now we're doing it, we're filming and we're doing this.
00:26And it's just, I'm somehow not drained.
00:28I'm somehow just filled with more energy because I just feel so grateful.
00:32You're the first Iranian American, I believe, who's nominated in this category.
00:35How does that feel?
00:36And what does that mean to the Iranian community?
00:38I'm asking because I am Persian as well.
00:39Oh, you are.
00:40Yes, I am.

00:43Yes, first Iranian and Middle Eastern from what I've learned.
00:47And it's, I mean, I am bereft of words.
00:51I am speechless.
00:53And it's past time.
00:55It's crazy.
00:55And I think that part of that is that so many of our people haven't been given roles
01:01with the juice.
01:02So many of our people haven't been given the opportunity because of circumstance.
01:07Whatever the reason.
01:09And stereotypical roles, right?
01:11And stereotypical roles.
01:11Roles that are incredibly reductive and that are two dimensional.
01:14Like, you know, the sister or the mother, which are important roles to play.
01:18But we are so much more.
01:20And I have, I have craved seeing women like we know, like our moms, like our sisters, like
01:26our, you know, like our parents and our siblings and our cousins who have so much contradiction
01:32and so much depth and so much complexity and are, you know, fascinating, hilarious, intelligent,
01:39passionate characters.
01:40And, and, you know, we're often like shoved to the sidelines.
01:43And so I'm, I'm just so grateful that I, I've been able to embody this, this woman, this
01:48Dr. Al Hashimi, who's half Iranian, half Iraqi and carries these, these rich contradictions.
01:54And, and, you know, I'm able to go deep with her.
01:57And, and I hope that this, this inspires a wave of, of more opportunities for people like
02:02us.
02:03And of course, there are the people across the world who don't have these opportunities
02:05because they're living under repressive regimes like in Iran, or they are living, you know,
02:11under bombs, or they are living in tent camps.
02:14So it's, it's, I, I'm so grateful.
02:17And I'm also very aware of the privilege that I hold because I've had this access.
02:23And I, I, I don't take that lightly.

02:57If I could trade roles or lives with someone, it would probably be.
