00:00It feels like everyone in Toronto right now is in search of the next big deal because not only did
00:04you have this Canada Investment Summit that took place yesterday, the film festival TIFF is happening right now and Milken
00:11Institute held its first ever Toronto Gathering as well this week.
00:15Just give us a sense of the excitement and the vibes down in Toronto or up in Toronto this week.
00:23Yes, you are absolutely right. It is buzzing for sure. You know, everywhere we turn, there's people in suits walking
00:30down the street. And there's definitely that buzz for the film festival as well. We got lots of stars here.
00:35It's really expensive to get a hotel room. There are 2000 Canadian dollar cocktails available if anyone is interested in
00:42that. So it's a great time to show off what Toronto is like.
00:45All right. And I misspoke. Mark Carney actually spoke with us on Monday and the event was Tuesday itself. We
00:52know the Canadian government in advance of the summit laid out 167 projects with opportunities to invest in projects of
01:00different stages, whether it's shovel ready or something still in the planning stages. What are some of the common threads
01:05of the projects that they laid out?
01:07A lot of these are resource extraction oriented. They're big projects like pipelines. They're things that are also oriented toward
01:17the future economy, data centers, for example, but also looking, like I said, at sort of resource areas like mines
01:25and things that maybe people have been talking about doing but haven't really had the investment to do.
01:31There are some projects that are indigenous led and or run and or owned. So there's elements there as well.
01:40So lots of things to choose from for these investors.
01:43Lots of things to choose from. Melissa, did we come out of the event with any specific announcements?
01:49So you mentioned a tax break or rather a tax speeding up immediate expensing for a lot of big assets.
01:57And there's also an announcement that Canada is looking to sell or allow long term capital into the four biggest
02:07airports in the country.
02:08So that would include Toronto. And so that's kind of the big stuff.
02:13Now, has anyone committed to those things yet?
02:16They were still in the exploratory stages.
02:18My colleague, Lian O'Dea, spoke to our Arty and CEO and said they'll definitely look at it.
02:24Also, our deals reporter, Paula Sambo, she said that there was she has had a lot of meetings, intense source
02:30meetings, and that the deal pipeline is looking very strong in general and that the sentiment is pretty positive.
02:36People were very impressed by the investors that came.
02:40This included Blackstone, BlackRock, Aries, Apollo, KKR, Mubadala and many more.
02:47So it was a global gathering.
02:49BlackRock, Aries, Apollo, KKR, Mubadala and many more.
