00:00The kicks, the dribbles, the goals, the celebrations, fans rearing, preview and analysis, views
00:06and opinions who only uncertainty sports have complete.
00:09What an amazing moment they are live, it's another AFCON, the 34th edition, taking place
00:15at Ivory Coast between January 13th and February 11th, 2024 and Nigerian head coach Ose Pesero
00:23has announced its final 25-man squad to take on African text at the next year's AFCON in
00:31Ivory Coast.
00:32The Nigerian side, gunning for its fourth title, has been drawn in Group A alongside Co-Oxt,
00:38Ivory Coast, Equatoria Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
00:41Super Eagles head coach Ose Pesero included its debutant in its final man squad for the
00:4634th edition of the African Cup of Nations.
00:49They had goalkeeper Stanley Mwabili and Olorun Leke Ojo, who also had Bright, Osai Samuel,
00:56Bruno Onyeamachi, Kevin Bassi, and Rafael Onye Dika.
01:01Others had Atlanta winger Ademola Lukman and Victor Boniface as those who would be appearing
01:06for the first time for the Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations.
01:11In this video, Sirik Sports is analyzing each player in the squad, a fourth African trophy
01:17as announced on Friday by Pesero.
01:22We are starting with the goalkeepers.
01:25And first on Pesero's list is Stanley Mwabili, a place for Chippa United in South Africa.
01:30Mwabili is one of the two goalkeepers in the Eagle squad making their debut at the tournament.
01:36The Chippa United goalie, already capped by the Umbexed Eagles, has been in great form,
01:40keeping seven clean sheets in 14 games and conceding 12 goals in the South Africa's top
01:45flight division.
01:46Francie Uzoor, the Nigerian number one, is next.
01:50He's been under fire and he will be in the spotlights when the African tournament kicks
01:54off in two weeks.
01:56The 24-year-old sum for the Eagles has been the talking point following the recent results
02:00of the team against Saudi Arabia, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
02:05The Amuniani-Cosa stopper has been inactive this season, playing four times for his club
02:11and conceding six times.
02:13Olorunuleke Ojo, he plays his professional football with a neighbor of Aba, he is the
02:18first choice choice stopper for the Aba side and he will be battling Stanley Mwabili for
02:22the second choice position.
02:24Ojo is the only player from the Nigerian professional football league in the squad and he has blown
02:29hot in court for the Elephants this turn despite their recent impressive results.
02:34And to the defenders, we have Seydou Sanussi who plays for Ex-Liporto in Portugal.
02:39Sanussi is one of the surprise inclusion in the Eagles squad for the tournament.
02:45Having recently recovered from a muzzle injury, he has one goal to his name in nine appearances
02:51in six around 47 minutes of action.
02:53Sanussi will be paired with Premier League side Ola Aino who plays for Nottingham Forex in
02:59England.
03:00And fit again Ola Aino will be making his third African appearance in Ivory Coast.
03:05Having featured at the last two editions in Egypt and Cameroon, the right back has made
03:1013 appearances scoring a goal and making an assist for Nottingham Forex helping the tricky
03:16trees keep pretty clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
03:19William Truxte Econ is next.
03:22He will be bringing his experiences to bear when the African kicks off in January.
03:27Truxte Econ has become one of the stalwarts in the England squad since he dumped Holland,
03:32the country of his best, and who he represented at U levels for Nigeria.
03:36Despite being left out from the squad for over a year, the power core defender is one of the
03:41most consistent Nigerian centre-backs in Europe this season.
03:44So far, next time, he played 21 times, providing one-assist Econ has continued to prove himself
03:50as the undisputed top choice at the heart of defence, but he remains to be seen if it
03:56will be a starter in Ivory Coast.
03:58On the next is Bruno Onyebaechi, he plays for Boa Vista in Portugal, another African debutant
04:06in the Eagles squad, Onyebaechi, who has made 12 appearances for Boa Vista this season, as
04:12one-assist is expected to be the first choice at the tournaments, bearing in mind San Jose's
04:18fitness level.
04:19Bright Osai Samuel is next.
04:21Undoubtedly, the Eagles' undisputed right-back heading into the 34th edition of the AFCON,
04:26Osai Samuel is one of the Nigerian players who have been in excellent form since the
04:31start of the 2023-24 season.
04:34The 25-year-old has appeared 24 times for Fenerbahce across all competitions this season,
04:39scoring two goals and registering four assists.
04:42The Nigerian is one of the Europe's defenders with IH number of assists this turn.
04:47His service on the right flank will definitely have the team draw out opponents when the AFCON
04:53kicks off.
04:53And next is Kenneth Omero, he is the Nigerian's most experienced defender.
04:58At the moment, the 30-year-old is set for his fourth African Cup of Nations outing in Ivory
05:03Coast.
05:04Omero was part of the Eagles squad that conquered the continent in 2013, and he will hope to use
05:10his wealth of experience to guide the team to another victory next year.
05:14The former Leggings man has been in good form for his Turkish club, Kazimpasa, scoring one
05:20goal and registering two assists in system league matches.
05:24And next is another debutant, Calvin Bassin.
05:26It's been a mixed success for Bassin so far this season, but his performance was enough
05:31to convince Pacero to hand the defender a spot on the team.
05:35It is going to be Bassin's first African appearance, and he will hope to give a good account of
05:41himself.
05:42The 23-year-old has been heavily criticized for his underwhelming performance for the
05:46Eagles, but now he has a chance to prove his doubters wrong in Abidjan.
05:52Bassin has been irregular for Fulham this campaign and has made 17 appearances for the Quotagers.
05:58Often deployed as a centre-back, Ajayi has always performed decently when playing for Nigeria,
06:04not the type of player that makes the headline every week.
06:07The 30-year-old is a very reliable player, and Bassin we hope he can help the team avoid
06:12conceding cheap goals.
06:14Ndidi is next, arguably one of the Eagles' most informed players heading to the Nations
06:19Cup in Ivory Coast.
06:20Ndidi's position in the team was never in doubt, as the mid-feeder has been in fine form for
06:26Leicester City in the Championship, as they battle to return back to the English Premier
06:31League.
06:31The 27-year-old has played in an advanced role this season and has shown its versatility
06:36under the new boss, scoring four goals and assisting in 23 games.
06:41Bassin will hope that Ndidi can replicate his Leicester form for the Eagles as they hope
06:46to win the AFCON title for the fourth time.
06:50Alexi Wobi is next, just as his mid-feet comrade, Hiwobi was one of the players who was fought
06:55in the team who was never under any threat.
06:58The Everton man has settled in very well since his move to Fulham in the summer, despite being
07:03played in different roles.
07:05In 17 Premier League games, the 27-year-old has scored three goals while registering one
07:10assists.
07:10If the Eagles are to stand any chance of going far at the AFCON, they will need Hiwobi to
07:16be at its best.
07:17The next mid-feeder is Joe Haribo.
07:19Haribo will be relieved to have made the final 25-man league into his poor form and lack of game
07:25time with Southampton.
07:26Before Pesero announced his final squad, few minutes before the kick-off between Southampton
07:30and Plymouth, Haribo played 18 out of the 25 matches played in the championship, scoring
07:36jocks a goal.
07:37The 27-year-old was apparently used by Slopside, starting just 7 out of the 25 games.
07:42Lately, the mid-feeder seems to have rediscovered his potential and had started all five of the
07:48Saint-Lax games.
07:49It remains to be seen if the former Rangers man will be able to continue his rich vein of
07:55form in Ivory Coast.
07:57Oyinka Frank is next.
07:59Oyinka has been a key player for Brentford in the Premier League this season.
08:03And Pesero, we hope, he can be as pivotal for the Eagles squad.
08:07Oyinka will be attending his second AFCON competition with the Super Eagles.
08:10His ability to control the game and contribute defensively makes him an essential addition
08:15to the Nigerian midfield.
08:17Since his debut in 2020, he has made 14 appearances for the Eagles, scoring one goal.
08:22Rafael Oenedika is another prospective AFCON debutant.
08:27As a 22-year-old versatile midfielder, midfielder brings skill and creativity to the Eagles squad
08:33and made his national team debut in 2022.
08:37He plays for Club Brugge in Belgium.
08:40Oyinka has scored one goal and provided one assist at his club side, while he has made three
08:45appearances and provided one assist for the Super Eagles.
08:48And from the midfield to the attack, next is Victor Oseman, who plays his professional
08:54football at Napoli in Italy, set for his second AFCON having mixed the laxed edition in Cameroon
09:01due to cheekplate injury.
09:04The reigning African Footballer of the Year has proven to be a key player for Napoli and
09:09the Super Eagles.
09:10Since his senior team debut in 2017, he has made 27 appearances and has scored 20 goals.
09:16With 7 goals in 13 Serie A games this season, Oseman is in fine form and will be keen to
09:22continue
09:23their run in Ivory Corks next year.
09:25Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany is next.
09:29He is another debutant at the AFCON after making a brilliant start to live in Germany for Bayer
09:35Leverkusen.
09:36With 16 goals and 7 assists in all competitions this season, the 23-year-old has been an asset
09:42to his club.
09:43His performances on the field have demonstrated his potential as a top-class forward and is
09:48expected to bring that same level of excellence to the Eagles squad.
09:52Moses Simon plays for FC Nines in France.
09:57Having mixed out of multiple major tournaments through injuries, Simon will be pledged to
10:03be in the Eagles squad for the AFCON.
10:05With a record of 60 appearances and 9 goals for the Eagles, Simon's presence adds depth and
10:11experience to the forward line.
10:13His contribution of 3 goals and 3 assists this season at FC Nines in the League 1 see him
10:20poised to make an impact for the Nigerian national team at AFCON.
10:24And the model Lukman is next.
10:27He plays for Atalanta FC in Italy.
10:29The Atalanta forward Lukman is one of those set to make the African debut at the 23-year-old
10:35African Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.
10:36Lukman's skillful and creative style of play has been a highlight for Atalanta FC where he
10:41has scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 13 Serie A appearances this season.
10:47His inclusion in the Eagles squad adds versatility and attacking flair to the team's forward line
10:52and he will be keen to add to its 2 goals for Nigeria in 10 appearances.
10:58Sambo Chukwese of AC Milan is next.
11:01Chukwese brings his electrifying talent to the Eagles squad as he gears up for his second
11:07African competition.
11:08At AC Milan, he has scored 2 goals and provided 1 assists in 17 appearances.
11:14His ability to take on defenders and create scoring opportunities make him a valuable asset
11:19to the Eagles.
11:20He has scored 5 goals and 30 appearances for the Super Eagles.
11:25Kelechi Aynashar is next.
11:27He plays for Leicester City in England.
11:29Aynashar has been in fine form for the 4-6 with his 6 goals and 2 assists provided in
11:34all competitions this season.
11:36His scoring prowess and attacking instincts make him a valuable addition to the Super Eagles.
11:42Aynashar has scored 15 goals in 50 appearances for the Nigerian national team who will be
11:46keen to add to that tally in his 2nd half-con competition.
11:51Humara Sadiq plays his professional football with the Spanish La Liga side Rio Sada.
11:56At the beginning of the season, it seemed like Sadiq would not make the Super Eagles squad
12:00for the half-con.
12:01But injuries to Terry Muffin and Awoni and his recent fine form in La Liga for Real Sada
12:07have won him a place in the Nigerian team.
12:10This will be Sadiq's second half-con tournament.
12:13The 26-year-old has made 10 appearances for the Super Eagles and has scored just one goal.
12:21Finally, but not the least, the Super Eagles captain Ahmed Moussa is set to bring his worth
12:27of experience to the Eagles squad at Afghan.
12:30At 31, Moussa's leadership and goal-scoring ability have been influential throughout his
12:35career and his presence provides depth to the Nigerian forward line.
12:40Moussa is the most-capped Higu ever and was part of the team that has lifted the Afghan Trophy
12:45in 2013.
12:46He has scored a total of 16 goals in 108 appearances for the Super Eagles.
12:52He would be hoping to add to that tally in Ivory Coast come January 2024.
12:59And that's the 25-man Super Eagles squad to fight Africa's best for the Afghan title in
13:05Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
13:10We would like to know what you think about this Super Eagles squad.
