00:00In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a pop-up text animation in After Effects.
00:05Let's get started. First of all, create a new composition.
00:11Now, select the Type tool and type your text. To create a proper pop-up effect,
00:17we need to make sure the text paragraph is set to center align. We also need to make sure the
00:22anchor point is positioned in the center of the text layer. To align the text to the center of
00:27the composition, go to the Align panel and align the text horizontally and vertically. Then,
00:33press Ctrl plus Alt plus Home on the keyboard. This places the anchor point in the center of
00:39the text layer. Now press S on the keyboard to reveal the scale property. Move the time indicator
00:45to the beginning of the text layer and click the stopwatch next to Scale to create a keyframe.
00:50Set the scale to 0%. Now move 5 frames forward and set the scale to 150%.
00:57Then move 5 frames forward again and set the scale back to 100%. And that's enough to create a simple
01:04pop-up text effect. Now select all the keyframes and press F9 to apply easy ease. We can make it
01:11even smoother by adding Motion Blur. Click the Motion Blur icon for the text layer. If you don't see the
01:18Motion Blur column, click Toggle Switches and Modes at the bottom of the timeline to reveal it.
01:23Now preview the animation. And here it is with Motion Blur applied. We can also duplicate the text
01:30layer as many times as we need to create multiple lines of text. Let me show you how to do
01:35that.
01:36For example, I want to split the first text layer at 10 frames. Move the time indicator to then go
01:43to
01:43Edit Split Layer. Now delete the remaining part of the layer. Next, select the pop-up text layer and
01:50press Ctrl plus D to duplicate it. Move the duplicate forward so its animation starts as soon as the first
01:56text layer ends. Now double-click the text layer and change the text to something else. For example,
02:03I'll type text. If we preview the animation, we now have two different text layers with the same pop-up
02:09animation. You can create as many lines of text as you want using the same technique. And that's how you
02:15create a pop-up text animation in After Effects. If you found this tutorial helpful, don't forget to
