00:00If you've ever wanted to remove the background from an image or a person in Adobe Illustrator
00:05without using Photoshop, this quick method is for you.
00:09In this video, I'll show you how to cut out an object and export it with a transparent
00:14background in just a few simple steps.
00:17So let's get started.
00:21First, go to File, Place and select your image.
00:27Now, open the Layers panel and create a new layer.
00:31Lock the layer containing your image so we don't accidentally move it while creating
00:36our selection.
00:38Next, select the Pen tool from the toolbar.
00:41Now make sure your Fill and Stroke are set to None.
00:45Now simply start tracing around the object you want to cut out.
00:49For this example, I'm going to trace around the Parrot.
00:52If you're new to the Pen tool, you can use simple clicks and add more points around
00:57the edges to get a more accurate result.
01:00But if you're comfortable with the Pen tool, you can create smooth curves with fewer points.
01:05This will make your cutout much cleaner.
01:08Take your time here and follow the edges of the object as closely as possible.
01:13Once you've gone all the way around, click on the starting point to close the path.
01:19Go back to the Layers panel and unlock the image layer.
01:23Select both the image and the path.
01:25Now press Ctrl plus 7 on Windows or Command plus 7 on Mac.
01:32This will create a clipping mask.
01:34And just like that, the background is hidden and we're left with our cutout.
01:39Now, let's export it with a transparent background.
01:42Go to File, Export.
01:43Export as.
01:44Choose PNG, give your file a name and click Export.
01:48Make sure Use Artboards is checked.
01:50In the next window, set the background color to transparent, then click OK.
01:55And that's it.
01:56We've successfully removed the background and exported our Parrot as a PNG.
