00:00Nick Reiner appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday morning. He looked a little bit different than he has
00:06in the past. His hair was cleanly brushed. He had a little bit of scruff on his face and he
00:12was wearing a brown jumpsuit and was shackled. He heard from prosecutors that they would not be seeking the death
00:19penalty. DA Nathan Hockman took to the mics and explained that the Reiner family had input in that decision.
00:25In deciding whether or not the DA's office was going to seek the death penalty, we have gone through a
00:32rigorous review where we look at the aggravating factors as well as the mitigating factors, where we have spoken to
00:39the victim's family, we have spoken to prosecutors, law enforcement, and I've worked with the most senior people in the
00:46district attorney's office.
00:48After a careful and thorough review of all these factors, the district attorney's office will not be seeking the death
00:55penalty in this case.
00:56That means that the maximum sentence that Mr. Reiner will be looking at is life without the possibility of parole.
