00:00Mr. Reiner has been indicted by the grand jury on two charges of first-degree murder that have the special
00:06allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait.
00:10Those special allegations, coupled with first-degree murder, means that the potential punishments for Nick Reiner are either life without
00:18the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
00:21In deciding whether or not the DA's office was going to seek the death penalty, we have gone through a
00:27rigorous review where we look at the aggravating factors as well as the mitigating factors, where we have spoken to
00:34the victim's family, we have spoken to prosecutors, law enforcement, and I've worked with the most senior people in the
00:41district attorney's office.
00:43After a careful and thorough review of all these factors, the district attorney's office will not be seeking the death
00:50penalty in this case.
00:51That means that the maximum sentence that Mr. Reiner will be looking at is life without the possibility of parole.
