02:36between the Dominican Republic and the rest of the Caribbean.
02:39One thing we do have in common, the beauty of our beaches,
02:42and I believe that there is opportunity for greater partnerships
02:46in the tourism sector, in the cultural sector,
02:50and I believe that we need to invest in that a little bit more.
02:54There may also be opportunities to look at artificial intelligence,
02:57whether or not there is scope for the region themselves
03:01to build their own artificial intelligence models
03:03or contribute to existing models that are out there.
03:06So I believe that the future is really, really quite ripe
03:10for a more intentional investment
03:14in strengthening the relations between the Dominican Republic
03:18and the rest of the Caribbean.
03:19Yes, and there are many SMS that want to export for the first time.
03:26And in the DR, they usually think about exporting to the U.S.,
03:31to other greater countries.
03:32But how do you see the region for MSMEs to start exporting?
03:40I think one thing we should do is to make sure
03:42our investment promotion agencies and our export promotion agencies
03:46in the Dominican Republic and the rest of the Caribbean are well connected.
03:50And I do know that the Caribbean Export Agency
03:53is doing an extremely good job of trying to build
03:56and strengthen these connections.
03:58But I believe that is where it must start
04:00because these organizations, these agencies can help pinpoint the opportunities.
04:05They can help open doors.
04:07They can help look at standardization of procedures.
04:10They can help to look at mutual recognition
04:11to make it easier to export and import into the different markets.
04:15So I believe that's a really important starting point.
04:18Get our investment and our export promotion agencies together
04:22to explore these opportunities.
04:24You talk about logistics, about how hard it is connecting all of the region.
04:35What would it be like connecting maybe through air,
04:40taking into account that the maritime sector is compelling
04:46and also it has lots of costs?
04:51Well, I know that there have been ongoing discussions,
04:53including at the level of CARICOM heads,
04:56about investment in appropriate air transport and maritime transport.
05:01So I know these discussions are ongoing.
05:03They are at the highest level of priority for the region.
05:07And I believe that you will continue to see some positive momentum
05:10in the next couple of years on narrowing the gap of costs,
05:15of getting from one point in the Caribbean to the other,
05:18which I think will also have an incredible impact on tourism
05:22and also on the movement of goods and services.
05:25How is the trade between the Dominican Republic and Barbados?
05:30I have to say I don't have those figures to hand,
05:33but whatever the figures are, I know that they can be better.
