00:21Good morning. Thank you so much for joining us.
00:24Just tell us, what's your view here on these latest comments around the AI tech boom?
00:28Are you worried as a regulator?
00:33I think we need to be worried because these are real risks that exist, the risk of loss of control.
00:40We should not underestimate them.
00:44And also we should not overestimate them in the sense that we have the technical capabilities to put guardrails,
00:52to slow down the pace in a way that is safe.
00:55We need the political will to do it.
00:57And I want to underline that the European Union already has legislation to actually act in this sense,
01:07to investigate the risks of the most powerful models.
01:11These are the powers that the AI act at the beginning of August this year,
01:16so just a few weeks ago, as given to the European Commission, to actually play a public governance, public safety
01:25role on the risks of the most powerful models of AI.
01:28So we have been leading the effort globally on safety, and now everybody's talking about it.
01:36Now we need the political will to actually put this in place, to actually work with the powers we have
01:43given the public institutions.
01:44And we need international cooperation.
01:46We need the U.S., we need China, we need the European Union to work together.
01:50On U.S., I mean, we heard last night President Donald Trump saying this is a hoax, these latest warnings.
01:56Do you think we really need a – it's time for a global rulebook, one rulebook on AI?
02:02Well, I want to be clear, we have in a few months a vote in the U.S. that will
02:12change the political balance.
02:14And I think that President Trump will need to take that into account.
02:18His reactions for now are, we can say, a bit in another direction than the leaders of the main companies,
02:29but also of prominent voices on AI regulation from academics like Professor Benjo to Senator Sanders that have said it
02:39clearly,
02:40we need a global treaty on this.
02:42And I want to insist that the European Union has the power to lead on that.
02:47I hope that President von der Leyen will say it very clearly during the State of the Union speech,
02:53that we are already paving the way for a safer AI development from the EU side,
03:00and we should join forces for this.
03:02We need global cooperation, and the U.S. has to raise its voice on the global stage.
