00:01It's no secret that AI is everywhere.
00:04And this week, Italy was in an uproar over AI-generated nude photos
00:08of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
00:10And in a bold move, she published the image herself on social media as a stark warning.
00:15If it can happen to a Prime Minister, it can happen to anyone.
00:19And this personal attack has fueled an urgent discussion in Brussels
00:23on how to stop nudification and protect citizens.
00:26So what's the plan?
00:29Yesterday, the EU reached a deal to ban nudification apps,
00:32so their very tools used to generate non-consensual sexually explicit photos and videos.
00:38And this is a vital step because, while politicians can fight back,
00:43most victims lack the resources to defend themselves.
00:46And this ban is a part of a broader update to the AI Act,
00:50so the EU's rulebook for artificial intelligence,
00:53and was designed to simplify the original rules
00:55and make them more innovation-friendly for growing businesses.
00:58And usually, EU law moves slowly.
01:01But Brussels has put this issue on a priority fast track.
01:05And the specific ban on nudification apps is expected to be fully enforceable
01:09across the Union by December this year.
01:12Alright, but what if you become a victim today?
01:14For now, you can use existing national privacy laws to insist that fake content is removed,
01:20especially after the GDPR rules.
01:23And since your image is your personal data, you have a legal right to erasure,
01:28a practical way to force platforms to hit the delete button immediately.
01:32And we know this all too well at Euronews.
01:36Our stories and journalists have been targeted by AI fakes,
01:40with voices manipulated and images stolen by coordinated disinformation campaigns
01:46or even outlets like Russia today.
01:49And we always report these cases.
01:51So if you happen to find a deepfake of yourself,
01:55you should not wait and report it too.
01:59We'll see you next time.
01:59Bye.
