00:02OpenAI will not go public in 2026 as the company focuses on artificial intelligence safety,
00:09CEO Sam Altman told Fortune. Altman said even a 10% risk that AI could cause human extinction
00:15would be unacceptable, though he questioned how such a probability could be calculated.
00:20He said, AI companies and governments must prevent profit incentives or competition
00:25from interfering with safety efforts. Altman added that OpenAI has more work to do on safety,
00:31alignment, and cooperation with governments before pursuing an IPO.
00:35His comments followed Anthropix CEO Dario Amadei's call for AI companies to slow the pace of model
00:41development. Altman said he agreed that the industry needs to pace the frontier.
