Former minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom has pleaded not guilty to three charges of causing Tabung Haji to improperly dispose of over RM860.3 million in assets between 2015 and 2017.

The charges, under Section 403 of the Penal Code, relate to transactions with Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Projects Management.

00:26The former Jirai MP pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad on Monday.
00:32Prosecutors allege the 65-year-old facilitated the disposal of Tabung Haji's assets totaling
00:38over 860 million, 308 thousand, 770 ringgit and 51 cents to Al Rawda Real Estate Development
00:46and Projects Management, Co Ltd, in transactions carried out at his ministry office in Putrajaya.
00:52The charges fall under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of six
00:58months to five years, along with a possible fine and whipping if convicted.
01:03The prosecution sought bail at one million ringgit, calling it reasonable given the scale
01:08of the case.
01:09But the defence argued for a lower amount, saying Jamil Khir's only income is his pension
01:14as a former minister and military pension.
01:17The court set bail at 300,000 ringgit and ordered the accused to surrender his passport.
01:40The case has been fixed for mention on November 5. Jamil Khir was earlier remanded for seven
01:49days from September 2 as part of an M.A.C.C. investigation linked to the Tabung Haji Royal Commission
01:56of Inquiry, which uncovered mismanagement within the institution.
02:00He served as the Religious Affairs Minister in the Barisan National-led Government from 2009
02:05to 2018.
