00:00Before you worry about who's winning the game, make sure your food isn't losing the battle against bacteria.
00:05On a hot tailgate day, food can spoil faster than many people realize.
00:09The USDA says perishable food shouldn't sit out for more than two hours,
00:12but when temperatures top 90 degrees, that safe window shrinks to just one hour.
00:18Why? Bacteria multiply rapidly between 40 and 140 degrees, what's known as the danger zone.
00:24That's why it's important to keep cold foods chilled in a cooler packed with ice,
00:28keep the lid closed as much as possible, and avoid direct sunlight.
00:32And here's something many people don't know.
00:34Spoiled food doesn't always smell bad.
00:36Harmful bacteria can be present even when food looks and tastes perfectly fine.
00:41So before kickoff, check more than just the forecast.
00:43Make sure your food is staying at a safe temperature too.
