00:08It looks about the size of Greenland, but in reality, you can fit 14 Greenlands inside Africa.
00:14You can easily fit the United States, China, India, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK inside it.
00:20Africa still has plenty of space left because it covers around 30.4 million square kilometers,
00:26making it the second largest continent in the world.
00:28But on the map, it looks smaller. Even Russia looks bigger than Africa.
00:31To correct this visual distortion, a small country in West Africa, Togo, started the campaign.
00:36The African Union backed the initiative, and eventually, the issue reached the UN General Assembly.
00:41On September 4th, the Assembly voted on the Correct the Map resolution with overwhelming results.
00:47164 countries voted in favor, with six abstentions.
00:50Only the United States voted against the change.
00:53The non-binding resolution passed, encouraging the world to adopt the Equal Earth projection.
