Beams of light illuminated New York's skyline on Sept. 10, 2026, paying tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the deadliest attack on US soil. Aerial footage showed twin beams of the annual 'Tribute in Light' display shining above lower Manhattan, with the memorial installation visible alongside One World Trade Center. The two shafts of light are an annual presentation by the Municipal Art Society. They are positioned to echo the shape of the twin towers of the World Trade Center, and are on top of a parking lot close to the 'Ground Zero' site. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001.
