00:00If you want to get better at work, you need to learn the right way to say no.
00:03In the first quarter of 2026, workers mentioned burnout 2.5 times more on Glassdoor reviews than
00:09they did prior to the pandemic. That's why it's important to set boundaries, and sometimes that
00:14means saying no. Lizzie Post is an etiquette expert and author, and she writes about how to
00:19decline in various business-related situations. She said that if you're given a short-term ask
00:24and you have a fast-approaching deadline, you should try something like, hey, I'm happy to
00:28take this on, but in order to do it well, I'd need to deprioritize something else. What should
00:33I focus on? That way, you're not refusing the work, you're making sure that it gets done
00:37well. But she said if you're consistently finding that you have too much on your plate, you should
00:42speak to your employer about it and explain that the quality of your work will start to
00:46go down if you keep adding more. Come to that conversation prepared to talk about why it's
00:51been overwhelming and why you can't take everything on. So here's today's challenge. Take five
00:56minutes and write down a list of everything you need to do. Then ask yourself, if someone
01:00were to give me one more project right now, what would I have to move to make it all work?
01:04And if you can't come up with an answer to that question, you're probably already at capacity.
01:09Remember, the most successful people aren't the ones who are doing the most necessarily.
01:13They're the ones who consistently deliver great work. For more tips on how to get better at work,
