00:01This is the end to a very long-running and bitter dispute between Luke Sayers and his
00:07former wife Kate, and it's ended in an apology from Mr Sayers and an acknowledgement that
00:13Ms Sayers did not take and post an explicit photo of him and post it on his social media
00:18accounts.
00:19Now this all goes back to January last year when this explicit photo was posted on Mr
00:25Sayers' ex-account. It was quickly deleted, but it was too late. The photo had spread
00:31and the AFL decided to do an investigation into it due to Mr Sayers' position as president
00:37of the Carlton Football Club. The AFL in the end found that Mr Sayers wasn't responsible
00:42for posting the photo. They found that his account had been compromised, but Ms Sayers
00:47alleged that it seemed that she was the one who posted it. She alleged that Mr Sayers had
00:54defamed her to the AFL and had also brought up things about her mental health history,
01:00her sexual history, and shared them with the AFL, and that's what she was suing Mr Sayers
01:05over. Now, Mr Sayers wasn't in court this morning, but through his barrister, he's delivered
01:11an apology. He says he is sorry for the hurt that he caused Ms Sayers, and he also said that
01:18and was very clear that Ms Sayers did not post that explicit photo.
01:22And so Jess, what did Ms Sayers have to say outside court?
01:26Look, she read a pre-prepared statement. She acknowledged Mr Sayers' apology and also
01:35really placed emphasis on his clear statement that she did not post that picture, and she
01:40said that it brought to a close a painful and difficult period for her, and she said that
01:45they began with extraordinary claims made against her that were accepted without challenge by powerful
01:51institutions. Now, Ms Sayers was asked if there was a financial settlement as part of this deal,
01:58and she wouldn't answer that question.
