00:06Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most
00:11disastrous deaths in DC movies. We'll be getting into spoilers for various
00:15live-action and animated DC films, so consider this your warning.
00:19Out of my way, people have to be told. You know I can't let you do that.
00:26Number 30, Parallax, Green Lantern I feel your fear growing. You will be dead soon.
00:34Besides being an ugly space cloud with a face, Parallax is meant to serve as the all-powerful
00:39living embodiment of fear itself. Unfortunately for him, he meets an incredibly fiery demise.
00:45While he's duking it out against the Green Lanterns, Rookie Howe Jordan tricks him into
00:49getting too close to the sun's orbit. From there, Parallax gets pushed into the massive
00:54dwarf star and burns apart. Parallax is an entity who represents fear so he probably
00:59doesn't get scared much, if ever. But as he was getting scorched alive, we have to imagine
01:04that he was pretty afraid.
01:05The entire human race will be wiped out because you, Howe Jordan, were afraid.
01:12Despite being a powerful villain, he was easily tricked into a painful death. Seriously, the
01:17sun is not a place you want to get trapped in. Ouch.
01:23The bigger you are, the faster you burn.
01:27Number 29, The Thinker, The Suicide Squad
01:34For a supposedly smart supervillain, The Thinker wasn't all that bright. His cruel treatment of
01:44Starro came back to bite him in a big way. Once the gigantic starfish was broken free,
01:49he spared no time taking the Thinker apart limb from limb. Now, that's how you send a message.
01:55Okay, we gotta calm down. Let's all just, let's talk about this. I understand where you're coming from.
02:01Across the line. Okay, across the line. I realized that.
02:05It's one thing to say that you're going to rip someone apart, and it's another thing to actually do it.
02:10Starro's actions are undeniably pretty gruesome, but considering how horrible The Thinker was,
02:15we don't really feel any sympathy for him. Point is, he had this coming. Starro's a starfish you don't
02:30want to cross, and this is exactly why, ultimately, in the end, The Thinker sure didn't think very
02:36clearly about his bad behavior. 28. Owlman – Justice League Crisis on Two Earths
02:47Alone, defeated, stranded in a desolate world that's about to explode. That's a horrific
02:51situation to be in, but how does Owlman react to his inevitable extinction? By telling us that he
02:57doesn't care. This death isn't just disturbing, it's kind of awesome. Okay, maybe it's in poor
03:15taste to say that a death can be cool, but you have to admit that Owlman takes this situation in
03:19stride.
03:20Batman beat him and left the supervillain in an abyss, but this evil doppelganger wasn't phased at all.
03:26Heck, if we want to get technical, Owlman still had time to deactivate the QED bomb,
03:31but he chose not to. That means his nihilistic mindset ultimately won out. Owlman was aura farming
03:46until the very end. 27. Arthur Fleck – Joker, Foley Adu
03:50Everyone outside! These cameras! Who do you think they see, Mr. Puddles?
03:59Joker. At a certain point, we thought Arthur Fleck was the Joker and all was well and good,
04:05but then this sequel came out and threw everything into disarray.
04:14Arthur renounced being the Joker and the movie ended with him getting stabbed to death by another
04:19inmate. This other inmate probably wanted to become the true Joker now that Arthur wasn't.
04:24Arthur's whole life was one painful experience after the other and his final moments were probably the
04:29most painful of all. He wanted to be someone so bad and for a while he was, but once he
04:35gave up
04:35the Joker identity, he returned to being a nobody. Now, we only remember Arthur Fleck as another sad
04:41sack who got killed in Arkham hospital. 26. Reverse Flash – Suicide Squad, Hell to Pay
05:03We've got to give the reverse flash some serious credit. He's truly one of DC's most difficult to
05:08kill supervillains. He was shot through the head by Thomas Wayne in Flashpoint Paradox, but Thawne
05:13used his abilities to slow the devastating effects of the bullet. This delayed his death and gave him
05:17time to find a solution which would have been a magical get out of hell free card. Unfortunately,
05:22Task Force X got in his way. Thawne put up a fight, but eventually the squad got the better
05:27of him and Deadshot gunned the speedster down. With his body riddled with bullet holes,
05:43Eobar Thawne was finally killed. Reverse Flash is a speed demon and a menace across timelines,
05:48but even he couldn't outrace death. 25. Hector Hammond – Green Lantern
06:13Parallax was an entity who suffered a gruesome death, but he was also a villain who did plenty
06:18of killing too. Case in point, look at what he did to Hector Hammond. The ambitious yet troubled
06:22scientist became a servant of Parallax, but he was hardly rewarded for his troubles. Instead,
06:27once Parallax pulled up to Earth, he wasted no time absorbing Hammond's life force.
06:32Once I have devoured your world, I will have all the strength I need to defeat the core and destroy
06:40the garden. This act essentially turned Hammond into a rotten corpse. A shadowy cloud drained someone
06:46of their soul. Just think about that for a minute. Green Lantern wasn't a well-received movie,
06:51but this death scene was pretty solid. For a brief moment, this sci-fi flick was a horror movie.
06:57Hi. The alien was one of you.
07:06How did we end up so different? Hammond wasn't a good guy, but still,
07:11his execution was extremely unsettling. 24. Johnny Quick – Justice League – Crisis on Two Earths
07:18People aren't as intimidated as they used to be. Maybe I should go down for a quick jog and
07:22terrorize us straight. In order to create a portal for Batman to get to Owlman and stop his
07:26multiverse-destroying scheme, a speedster was necessary for the portal to work. The Flash volunteered,
07:32but he actually wasn't the right speedster for the job. Instead, Johnny Quick stepped up,
07:37vibrating his body so fast that he was able to create the portal. He's talking about blowing up my
07:42world too and I'm not letting that happen. It could be dangerous. The bloody universe is at stake.
07:47Of course it's dangerous. All right, when you reach the proper speed, I'll give you a mark.
07:51However, this came with a severe cost. By moving so fast, Johnny unknowingly accelerated his own
07:58aging. That means that once Batman came back, Johnny was turned into an old man and died from
08:03exhaustion. What makes this even more messed up is that Batman knew Johnny would die, meaning he set him up.
08:09Did we save the world then? We did. And all that rubbish about me being faster than Flash,
08:20you knew this was gonna happen. Johnny Quick died for a good cause,
08:24but still, this fate is haunting. Number 23, Rick Flagg Jr. The Suicide Squad.
08:29They experimented on children. No one is saying what they did was right. They experimented on children!
08:35Rick Flagg Jr. has done plenty of shady things for the US government,
08:38but when he discovered all the heinous crimes they were committing, he knew that the truth
08:42needed to be released. Unfortunately, a loser named Peacemaker didn't feel the same way.
08:47The two task force members slugged it out, but Peacemaker managed to win when he stabbed Rick
08:52through the heart. This was a devastating kill because unlike Peacemaker, Rick Flagg Jr. was truly
08:57trying to do the right thing.
09:02His death would later haunt the idiot with the shiny helmet and also motivate Rick's father to
09:07go scorch earth in the name of justice. Yeah, Peacemaker really sucks and Rick Flagg Jr. deserved
09:13to be avenged. I can't let you do that, Colonel. Excuse me? I'm truly sorry. Ms. Waller charged me
09:19with making sure those records don't leave this building. Of course, I should've known. Waller's
09:23always got a backup. Number 22, Psycho Tech. Teen Titans Trouble in Tokyo. It's not much,
09:29but it's the only clue I've got. No screws, no seams. What's this thing made of?
09:37Nice. Fans know that Robin from the animated Teen Titans series is insanely vicious,
09:42but he's never been a killer. Or has he? The movie Trouble in Tokyo muddies the waters. You see,
09:49there's an amazing sequence where Robin battles a colorful villain named Psycho Tech.
09:59Psycho's pretty good at fighting, but Robin beats him to a bloody pulp. He actually pummels him so bad
10:04that he basically kills the criminal. Robin's gloves are stained in pink, but through the lighting,
10:09it looks like blood. Since Psycho was actually a non-living entity created by the real villain,
10:15Bruce Shogun, he didn't truly stay dead for long. That being said though, he still 100% got
10:20immersed by Robin. Don't ever piss off the boy wonder.
10:24Please. I didn't mean to. He had a power. He could regenerate. In this, it isn't blood. He wasn't human.
10:32Number 21. Warehouse Thugs. Batman Vs. Superman. Dawn of Justice.
10:43While rescuing Superman's mom from Lex Luthor's thugs, Batman breaks into a warehouse and delivers a
10:48truly brutal beatdown. This version of the Dark Knight kills. And while that's part of why Bat-Flex
10:54is so divisive, the way he effortlessly wipes out the thugs is honestly must watch. It's like seeing
11:00the Arkhamverse games in live action. Batman's throwing crates at dudes,
11:05shrugging off gunshots to the head, and staying badass all the way through.
11:14We feel bad for the dead henchmen here because getting taken down like this has got to be a
11:19special type of hell. Ben Affleck's Batman is still a controversial version of the Caped Crusader,
11:24but regardless if you love or hate him, both sides of the fandom agree that this scene rules.
11:29It's okay. I'm a friend of your son's.
11:33I figured. The cape?
11:35Number 20. Malik Ali, Superman. Superman is one of the strongest superheroes around,
11:40but even he needs the help of ordinary people every now and then. When he was injured by the
11:45metahuman The Hammer of Baravia, Malik Ali is who came to his rescue. Unfortunately,
11:49that made him a target for Lex Luthor.
11:52Are you alright, Superman? Ali, you gotta get out of here.
11:54It's not safe. You've saved us so many times. Now it's our turn.
11:58After imprisoning Superman in a special pocket dimension, Lex rounded Malik up too.
12:02Not long after, Lex put a gun to Malik's head and pulled the trigger,
12:06executing the citizen in front of Superman.
12:08Who are you working with here on Earth?
12:11This was a sadistic display of cruelty from Lex and a jarring shift in the movie's tone.
12:16It's an optimistic film overall, but moments like this brought a haunting amount of darkness to the table.
12:29Number 19. Board of Directors, Shazam. Although Shazam is a family-friendly pseudo-Christmas comedy,
12:38the villain almost feels like he should be in a different movie. After gaining immense power from
12:43the Seven Deadly Sins, Dr. Sivana pays a visit to the father and brother who emotionally tormented him.
12:50Ask that if you can throw me out.
12:52What?
12:53Ask the ball if you're man enough to throw me out of this room.
13:00Let me spoil it for you.
13:05His brother actually gets off relatively easy, getting tossed through a window.
13:10Everyone else has the sins to deal with, who wastes no time tearing them apart.
13:21The PG-13 rating means this scene isn't as violent as it realistically could be,
13:27but there are still some genuinely alarming moments,
13:30like seeing the board members pressed up against the office windows, shrieking for help.
13:41Dear old dad gets the worst of it.
13:43Sivana makes him watch before sickening greed on him.
13:48Oh, greed. You can have him.
13:53No.
13:56No.
13:57No.

14:04Number 18.
14:05Batman. The Flash.
14:06During the climactic battle against General Zod's forces,
14:10Batman knows that he has to do whatever it takes to even the odds.
14:13He then makes the decision to take out a protective force field by crashing his bat plane into it,
14:18effectively sacrificing himself on a fiery explosion.
14:31Batman is the Dark Knight.
14:32Since Batman is the Dark Knight, the Dark Death feels appropriate.
14:36However, what makes this even more brutal is how utterly stupid this whole send-off was.
14:40Considering that Batman's final attack didn't actually break anything of importance,
14:45that means he basically took his own life for no reason.
15:00It's such a bizarre sequence of events that it makes the aftermath even more grim than before.
15:05Seriously, if that isn't a rough way to go out, then what is?
15:10Be okay.
15:12Not this time, kid.
15:15Maybe some other time.
15:17Number 17.
15:18Zod, Man of Steel
15:20In the entry to kick off DC's live-action shared universe,
15:24Michael Shannon brought high-level intensity to the role of Zod.
15:28I will find him.
15:31I will find him, Laura.
15:36I will find him!
15:38The Kryptonian general takes it upon himself to bring his people back from the brink of death
15:44by wiping out another, us.
15:47Thankfully, Supes doesn't let that happen.
15:50You're a monster, Zod.
15:54And I'm gonna stop you.
16:01In one of the most destructive superhero fights ever,
16:04the two rage through Metropolis.
16:06As Zod threatens to destroy an innocent family right in front of him,
16:10Superman does the only thing he can think of
16:12and snaps his enemy's neck with tremendous force.
16:21Clark's turmoil over the decision is evident in Henry Cavill's performance,
16:26but it also caused debate among fans and creators over whether it was the right thing
16:31for Superman to do.
16:34Number 16.
16:35Dollmaker, Batman vs. Robin
16:36When Batman and Robin investigate the disappearances of several children,
16:40their trail leads them back to the demented Dollmaker.
16:43Amidst the ensuing chaos, Robin battles against the serial killer
16:46and is close to killing him, but ultimately spares his life.
17:01But not long after that, Dollmaker dies anyway when his heart gets ripped out.
17:06The murderer is revealed to be Talon, a deadly assassin from the Court of Owls.
17:10It shouldn't be too hard to see how getting your heart ripped
17:13from your body can be a horrific experience.
17:16What have you done?
17:18That being said, Dollmaker totally had it coming.
17:21Sure, it's a horrible way to die, but he was also endangering countless lives,
17:25so yeah, we definitely aren't going to be missing the Dollmaker.
17:29Who did it?
17:30Figure it out for yourself.
17:33Robin!
17:43Number 15.
17:45Jesse Kane, Aquaman
17:47If you're a pirate going up against a superhero, expect to meet a very swift end.
17:53I've waited a long time for this.
18:05Towards the beginning of the movie, father and son duo Jesse and David Kane
18:09lead an attack on a submarine.
18:11It isn't long before Aquaman shows up and lays the smackdown on David,
18:16leading Pops to step in with explosives.
18:26Despite one being effective against the hero,
18:30explosives on a submarine are obviously never a good call.
18:39After a short bout, Jesse ends up pinned underneath a torpedo with the water rushing in.
18:46When Aquaman leaves them to fend for themselves,
18:49David refuses to abandon his dad until Jesse holds up a grenade.
18:58The off-screen explosion signals the birth of Black Manta.
19:03Number 14.
19:04Lois Lane, Zack Snyder's Justice League
19:07There are some elements of certain DCU films that we might not see come to fruition
19:12due to the behind-the-scenes changes at Warner Brothers.
19:15One of those elements are the visions of an apocalyptic future with an evil Superman.
19:28In Zack Snyder's Justice League, the team must combat Steppenwolf and the threat of his immensely
19:33deadly master, Darkseid.
19:36In order to do so, they revive Superman, but we see that the possibility of their failure
19:41to lead to disaster.
19:43One brief scene shows Clark holding the charred remains of Lois and weeping,
19:48likely the outcome of Darkseid's Omega Beams.
19:55Although we don't see it, Joker does say she suffered.
20:00Poor Lois.
20:01How she suffered so.

20:07Starro, The Suicide Squad
20:10When James Gunn entered the DCU, we knew we'd be getting something special.
20:15Without the constraints of a PG-13 rating,
20:17that something special was soaked in as much blood as possible.
20:22I'm a superhero!
20:25I'm a f***ing stupid!
20:29During the climax, the squad faces off against Starro, The Conqueror.
20:33And it's just as over the top as a fight against the giant starfish should be.
20:37Although Starro's mind controls many humans,
20:41they pale in comparison to the number of rats on the island.
20:44This city isn't yours.
20:47This city isn't ours.
20:50This city is theirs.
20:56Oh hell.
20:58Ratcatcher 2 commands her furry allies to swarm the giant alien,
21:02creating an opening for Harley to pierce Starro's eye with her javelin.
21:14As she floats inside the eye with an army of rodents nibbling away, the music swells.
21:20It would almost be a sight to behold if it wasn't so gross.

21:26Superman, Batman Vs.
21:27Superman, Dawn of Justice
21:28The DCEU was a turbulent universe for Superman.
21:31In his second movie appearance, he had to square off against Batman and later an unhinged beast
21:36known as Doomsday.
21:37His battle would be so intense, in fact, that it cost him his life.
21:50The death occurred when Superman stabbed him with a special kryptonite spear.
21:53It stopped Doomsday, but the creature was smart enough to then use one of his special spikes to
21:58stab him as well.
22:05The action packed sequence essentially took both of these powerhouses out of the equation.
22:10But while no one really missed Doomsday, the world felt the loss of Superman.
22:14His death rattled the DCEU and while he was quickly brought back,
22:18it showed how even Superman wasn't immortal.

22:30Murray Franklin, Joker The TV business is rough,
22:33but the late night landscape has never turned this leaf though.
22:36When Murray Franklin invited Arthur Fleck to his program, things went completely off the rails.
22:41When I was a little boy and told people I was going to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me.
22:48Well, no one's laughing now.
22:55You can say that again, pal.
22:58The talk show host antagonized Arthur prior to their meeting and continued to do so during the
23:03actual interview.
23:04Arthur deserves criticism, but Murray's words would cost the host dearly.
23:08His sharp jabs would get shut down as Arthur shot him point-blank on air.
23:12How about another joke, Murray?
23:13No, I think we've had enough of your jokes.
23:15What do you get?
23:16I don't think so.
23:16When you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and beats him like
23:22trash!
23:23Call the police!
23:23I'll tell you what you get!
23:25The look of horror on the other guests as Murray's blood splattered everywhere
23:28really sold just how disturbing this primetime event was.
23:32Arthur was appropriately punished for his actions, but this televised execution should serve as a reminder
23:37not to push the Joker's buttons.

23:47The Cow – Peacemaker
23:49Holy cow.
23:51It is.
23:54James Gunn kept the violent absurdity going from the Suicide Squad with a series dedicated to one of
24:01its most absurd characters. Peacemaker follows the antihero as he works with Waller's underlings to
24:07stop an alien invasion. They eventually learn the aliens called butterflies brought one of their
24:13cows with them, a gigantic bug-like monstrosity that produces their only source of food.
24:20Activate human torpedo.
24:21What?
24:27During the group's final mission, Peacemaker activates the human torpedo helmet on Adebayo's head,
24:33shooting her straight through the cow's chest. She then falls out of it, bringing lots of gross
24:39goop with her. There were already some fairly vicious death scenes throughout the show, but the insane
24:45circumstances make this one of the more memorable.

25:00Black Mask – Birds of Prey
25:07As the first movie within DC's shared universe to go for an R rating, Birds of Prey features an
25:13appropriate level of brutality. A big portion of it comes from the sadistic villain Ewan McGregor's
25:19Black Mask. However, the most savage death in the movie is his own. After plenty of blood has already
25:38been shed, Harley Quinn catches up with Black Mask on a pier with a young Cassandra as his hostage.
25:44But the girl proves her proficiency at sleight of hand. She clips a grenade to Black Mask's waist
25:50and pulls the pin, while Harley rushes to toss him over the railing.
25:55I took your ring.
25:56My ring?
26:01Dope.
26:01Dope.
26:02It's a very quick death. But an undeniably brutal one.
26:088. Max Shrek – Batman Returns
26:10Step aside Bruce, because the chemistry between Max Shrek and Selina Clow is electric. In fact,
26:16sparks flew between them. No seriously, that's what happened. After getting almost killed by Shrek,
26:22Selina went from a shy receptionist to a flamboyant vigilante.
26:25You know, for a second there, you really frightened me.
26:34And as Catwoman, she got revenge on her former employer.
26:38By pressing a stun gun against him and grabbing a hold of an electric cable,
26:42she fried Max while also giving him a kiss of death.
26:45This was one elaborate way to go out, to say the least.
26:54It's also undeniably a traumatizing moment,
26:57since it effectively turned Max into a charred corpse.
27:00With this and the horrifying way that the Penguin died,
27:02it's no wonder why so many kids were scared of Batman Return.
27:06And at first, a cool drink of ice water.
27:18Number 7. Jason Todd, Batman Under the Red Hood
27:21Few sidekicks have had it worse in the DC Universe than Jason Todd.
27:25Not only was he captured by the Joker,
27:27but he was also beaten nearly to death with a crowbar.
27:31So, let's try and clear this up, okay, Pumpkin?
27:34What hurts more?
27:38A or B?
27:41Forehand.
27:43Or backhand.
27:45Then, to ramp things up,
27:47Joker rigged the warehouse he was in to explode.
27:50Torture and humiliation wasn't enough.
27:52A massive explosion also had to be engineered to screw Jason over.
27:59No.
28:04Even though he came back to life,
28:06his death remained a traumatizing chapter in his history.
28:08It makes perfect sense.
28:10Death is never easy to deal with,
28:12but a death like this is even more crazy than what audiences normally expect.
28:16Joker's murder of Jason Todd is the reason Jason became Red Hood
28:20and also the reason Batman considers him his greatest failure.
28:38Joker is one of DC's most unhinged villains, and this movie proves it.
28:43He messed with Superman's head and tricked him into killing his pregnant wife, Lois Lane.
28:46So, as you can imagine, the Manif still wasn't happy about this.
28:51You took his wife.
28:54You took his unborn child.
28:57And his city.
28:59Why?
28:59If you thought getting shot by Tim Drake in Return of the Joker was grim,
29:04you haven't seen anything yet.
29:10That's not funny.
29:12Once Superman found the Joker,
29:14he rammed his arm through the clown's chest.
29:16Bruto doesn't begin to describe how grisly this death was.
29:19The execution was a level of violence we'd never expect from Superman.
29:23And after this murder,
29:25it turned our hero into a ruthless dictator.
29:27Joker deserved to be punished,
29:29but in the end,
29:30his death arguably doomed this universe.
29:32Now that's a bench line.
29:35Number 5.
29:36Sabacc, Black Adam.
29:38Black Adam may not have changed the hierarchy of DC the way we were promised,
29:43but it nevertheless has some pretty awesome beatdowns,
29:46courtesy of its heroes.
29:47You know what I have to do?
29:51Beat his ass.
29:53During the climax,
29:54Black Adam learns the importance of playing well with others
29:57when he and the Justice Society take on the demon Sabacc.
30:01His powers may have been outmatched if it weren't for Hawkman,
30:04who provides Adam the assist for a slam dunk.
30:16With a little wizardry,
30:18Hawkman holds the villain down while Adam sends electricity coursing through his body.
30:23He then rips him in half the long way,
30:26with Sabacc's insides consisting of pure molten lava.
30:29Tell him the man in black sent you.
30:39That could not have been a pleasant way to go.
30:43Number 4.
30:43The Good Guys,
30:44The Suicide Squad.
30:46Long before the Suicide Squad even knows about Starro,
30:50they have to rescue Rick Flagg after he gets captured.
30:53Or, at least, that's what they think they're doing.
30:56Nothing like a bloodbath to start the day.
30:59They call you Peacemaker.
31:01I cherish peace with all my heart.
31:03I don't care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it.
31:05Under orders from Amanda Waller,
31:07our antiheroes mount a stealthy assault to free Flagg from his supposed captors.
31:13The sequence is filled with some grisly kills.
31:19Highlights include King Shark eating someone whole,
31:22and Bloodsport and Peacemaker's competition over who can get the coolest kill.
31:30It's some pristine carnage made even more hilarious
31:34when the group finds out that Flagg was never in any danger.
31:38In actuality, they just murdered a whole host of freedom fighters
31:42who would have gladly aided them on their mission against those in power.
31:46Whoops!
31:47Why did my people not alert me of your arrival?
31:52We didn't see any people.
31:53I didn't see anybody.
31:54We were probably.
31:56I turned them into my mother in my head
31:58and killed them.
31:59Number 3.
32:00Mara.
32:00Justice League The Flashpoint Paradox.
32:02After discovering that her husband Aquaman
32:04was having an affair with Wonder Woman,
32:06Queen Mary decided that she was out for blood.
32:14Unfortunately, she got too ahead of herself in her ambitions.
32:18You actually have no idea just how true that is.
32:21When Mara went to kill Wonder Woman,
32:23she ended up getting decapitated.
32:31Needless to say,
32:32things didn't go well for her as she died instantly.
32:35Mara was right to be upset by her husband's betrayal,
32:37but there's simply no world
32:38where she has any chance at killing Wonder Woman.
32:41Sorry.
32:41There's no ifs or buts about it.
