Spirit - Space Child - When I Touch You (1971)

It's double feature time ... and this time it is both the recording artist and film genre that is doubled. The Spirit songs are the first two consecutive tracks from side two of Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (1970). I bought this album, I thought, brand new in May 1971 ... the FM stations here never played any tracks from it until May 1971, which is why I thought it was a brand-new album at that time. But research indicates otherwise. It remains one of my favorite rock albums ever made to this day.

The two science fiction films featured in this video were released a year apart. I saw both as an actual double feature at one of the local drive-ins when I was 8 years old. Journey To The Seventh Planet was the new release and The Phantom Planet was from the previous year. I thought both were fantastic and still do. Journey To The Seventh Planet, directed by Sid Pink, was shot in Denmark and has mostly Danish cast except for the lead character played by American actor John Agar. The Phantom Planet boasts no major stars like John Agar, although most are from the United States. Two famous exceptions are the female character Zetha and the giant Solarite who is taken prisoner and later escapes. The Solarite was played by 7'2" Richard Kiel (wearing an alien suit) who played the character Jaws in the two 007 films The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker and was a recognizable character actor in many other movies. The actress who played Zetha I immediately recognized as Dolores Faith who starred in the movie V.D. (1961) which was later edited down to 30 minutes with a narrative added in the film The Summer Of '63, an educational documentary about the dangers of syphilis.

I have used the more romantic material from Summer of '63 (and later V.D.) in several videos: "Theme From A Summer Place," "You're Only Lonely," "Elenore," "Laugh, Laugh," and "Supernova." In Summer of '63, Dolores Faith is the black-haired girlfriend Kathy, jealous rival of actress Charlotte Stewart who plays Judy, the blonde-haired love interest engaged to Jim (played by Mory Schoolhouse). If you have seen any of my videos listed above, and no doubt many other videos made by fans of the former actress and model, you will instantly recognize Dolores Faith (a natural blonde who chose to dye her hair black) who appeared in many other films such as Mutiny In Outer Space, The Human Duplicators, House Of The Black Death, That Tennessee Beat, and several television shows, including the role of Lorelei Lancer in the two-part episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. titled One of Our Spies Is Missing and released into theaters. She retired from film in 1972 when she married Maxwell House heir James Robert Neal. Sadly, Dolores Faith committed suicide at age 48 in February 1990.
