00:45How's he doing at left guard so far?
00:47I mean, he's doing great.
00:49I think since he's got here, he's bought into everything that we're about,
00:53and he's a different type of rookie.
00:55I mean, he's huge.
00:56He has great feet.
00:58He's fast, and he's smart.
00:59He processes the game way different, and just seeing him grow every day,
01:04I think, is great.
01:06How's he do?
01:06I always wonder with, you know, veterans are going to talk to him
01:09and try to push him around and push you guys late, because I see how you handle it.
01:14You're fantastic at it, by the way, giving it right back.
01:16How's he do with that stuff when guys try to intimidate you a little bit physically?
01:22I mean, he's a huge presence, so I don't think anyone's ever going to do that to him.
01:27I think, you know, he's played at the highest level since he's been in college at Alabama,
01:32started since he was a freshman.
01:34So, I mean, he's just used to it.
01:36He's used to the big stage, and he's a huge person, so no one's going to push him around.

01:56I've seen good captains, and I've seen other guys who were captains when I played,

02:03And so I'm just wondering, what's the key for you, like, now that you're one of six guys
02:09that's captain on this team, which, by the way, I thought the six best players happen
02:13to be the captains, too, but what's the key for you, like, now that you have that role
02:18and responsibility?
02:20I think just here is upholding the standard that we've set this year and just policing
02:25that and just keeping, you know, we're a really young team, so just making sure everyone's
02:29on the same page, being vocal, helping all the guys out.
02:33And really just upholding the standard.
02:35I think that's the main thing.
02:37Patrick, I've been saying this, barking on this show early in the morning for everybody
02:41to listen, the strength of this team is that starting five on that offensive line.
02:44That's where it needs to be.
02:47Guys have gotten better.
02:48They're all young guys.
02:49You guys are all young guys, but I just feel like if everybody can stay healthy, it's got
02:54a chance to be really good.
02:56Do you feel that way from what you've seen and you guys, all five of you guys working together
03:00all camp?
03:01I definitely agree with that.
03:03I think that this year we can do something special in the run game, just making sure
03:08everyone's on the same page and just keeping our standard the same where we're just attacking
03:12the line and just attacking the ball and getting after it.
03:16I think this line could be special.
03:17Yeah, and the other thing is nice, and this is not shots at the pass.
03:22I'm not doing pass, and some people read into I'm always taking jabs into history here sometimes,
03:27but having Malik Willis back there, who, by the way, he might be the best frigging all-around
03:33athlete in the league.
03:35That guy can run.
03:36You know if something does happen, he's got a chance to keep that play alive.
03:40Talk about protecting for that guy back there, even when he drops back with that big arm
03:47and keeps plays alive.
03:49I mean, he is a special type of quarterback.
03:52I mean, just seeing him come here and just light it up on the field, I think it's been
03:56special.
03:57He has a lot of gifts.
03:58Like you said, he's fast.
03:59He has an arm.
04:00He's smart.
04:01So I'm really excited about this year and seeing him go out there and play his ball.
04:05Yeah, that is going to be fun.
04:07Hey, I wanted to ask you this, too.
04:08You know, in the old days, everybody played a lot of preseason football, and you got ready,
04:12so you were super sharp.
04:14Now in the new NFL, guys don't play.
04:18Starters don't play as much.
04:20And I know everybody wants everybody to be healthy for that first game.
04:24In this case, going to Las Vegas to play the Raiders.
04:28Do you like the extra work, or can you get enough in practice to feel good and ready
04:33to go for that starting game?
04:36I do like the extra work.
04:38You know, I love ball, so I'm always down for the extra work.
04:40But definitely, during training camp, I think that we got a lot of great looks, and I think
04:45that we got a lot of reps with the starting group.
04:49So with that, we can build off of that and keep it rolling until week one.

04:55Let's get into the good stuff.
04:56I always love this.
04:57So now you prepare for Quidipe and Max Crosby, whether one plays on one side, one shifts
05:02back and forth a little bit.
05:04So different guys, obviously, every pass rusher looks a little different.
05:08They all come in different bodies, as you know.
05:10How do you prepare, man, when you watch guys?
05:13I'm always, what's the biggest thing?
05:15Is it about you and just having the right technique, or is it about if a guy's always
05:20trying to beat you up the field?
05:21Talk about some of the things you look at when you get ready for a Quidipe and a Max Crosby.
05:27I think the big thing with any pass rush you're studying is just watching their tape, watching
05:31their tendencies, basically their tells, their pass rush moves, of course.
05:36But watching the defense as a whole, I think, is the biggest thing.
05:40And seeing the entire defense and just seeing how they work, what their tendencies are, what
05:45blitzes they like, etc.
05:47I think just watching the whole defense gives you an idea of what you're going to see.
05:51For this offense to have success, you know what everybody said about us young, and we
05:56don't have enough experience, and how good are these young guys, and how quickly can they
06:01develop, and the whole thing.
06:02What's the key for the offense to have early success, in your eyes, playing left tackle?
06:08I think making sure all the young guys and everybody's on the same page.
06:12Like you said, these young guys, they're special.
06:15They're different.
06:16They're very talented.
06:17So I think just making sure everyone's on the same page, I think we could have a lot
06:23of success if we are.
06:24Yeah.
06:24Hey, so it's really interesting.
06:27Through all the years I've been here, Teron Armstead, who was injured, as you know, a lot.
06:32His body was just beaten up by the time he got here.
06:35And that guy missed a lot of practice.
06:37I was amazed how good he was for never practicing.
06:41If I did that, I would suck and I'd get cut for being just bad on Sundays.
06:47It was incredible to watch his base, his strength of his arms, and I used to stare at him in
06:53the hotel going, I know he hadn't practiced all week, and I know his ass is going to play
06:57well in this game.
06:59For sure.
06:59What do you learn from a guy like that?
07:01I'm always curious.
07:03I mean, he said he was a great leader.
07:05He was a great vet to have in the room.
07:07He had so much knowledge of the game.
07:09Like you said, he didn't have to practice like he didn't because he was just so smart.
07:13He played so much ball and was so advanced in knowing other teams and knowing like himself
07:20that he was able to go out there without practicing and just ball out.
07:24And it was the most impressive thing.
07:25But him as a vet, I learned so much from him because he has so much knowledge and so many
07:30different techniques that he can use.
07:32So definitely one of one player.
07:34You play against the best pass rushers every week in the NFL.
07:38I mean, this week is Crosby.
07:40Next week could be, you look over there and it could be a Boza brother, Nick Boza's next
07:46week.
07:46So they just keep coming guys, 60, 70 sacks in the league and they're all confident dudes.
07:52I always wonder the makeup that you have to have.
07:56You're going to get beat.
07:57Nobody's going to play a perfect game.
07:58I think everybody knows that.
08:00What's your mindset going into every game, especially if you get guys yapping a little
08:04bit or, or trying to, you know, give you that extra push.
08:07How do you handle that and your mindset going into a game on a guy?
08:12I think you just trust your technique, build out a plan with your coaches on what the game
08:19is going to look like.
08:20And I feel like just trusting that and believing in that and going out there and executing and
08:25playing the next play, regardless of what happens and just draining all four borders.
08:30Honestly, Patrick, help me out with coach Halfley.
08:32Oh, tell me what fans listening to early in the morning to know about our new coach.
08:40He's gritty.
08:41He's a great coach.
08:43He believes in us.
08:44He instills a great, basically a great structure of how he wants the team to look.
08:49And he's just, he's a hardball coach.
08:53He gets to it.
08:54He's gritty.
08:54And I like everything he's about.
08:57So yeah, he's a great coach.
08:59So I'm excited.
09:00You know, you know, it's amazing.
09:01I saw the comments and stuff and people trying to get the stuff with Max Crosby and you going
09:07a little bit and you called him a hothead.
09:10Well, you said a lot of compliments.
09:11You actually, everybody's kind of downplaying.
09:14You said he's a really good player and they just want to get, they just want to get to
09:18the other part of this.
09:20And so you get ready for it and you know what to expect.
09:23You've seen it.
09:25He's not the first guy to act like this.
09:28Keeping your cool.
09:29I know you got, you saw a little bit when the Giants were in town and they wanted to
09:34get a little nasty.
09:36You just don't let that stuff affect you.
09:38You seem to really handle it well.

09:44Like I said, he's a great player and that's all there is to say about it.
