00:00This is the Sony Bravia 9 Mark II, and it's actually not the first time you've seen it here
00:06on the channel. Surprise! Remember the true RGB explainer I dropped? Well, that was and is Sony's
00:14first consumer-ready mini-LED TV with an RGB-based backlight. I'm so excited that I can finally tell
00:20you all about it. I'll also go over all of the features that make this feel like Sony's most
00:25premium flagship possibly ever, because believe it or not, it's not just about the backlight.
00:30I guess you'll just have to stick around to see what I'm talking about. Not too long ago here on
00:36the channel, I broke down Sony's revolutionary true RGB mini-LED tech, but there was a catch. I
00:43couldn't tell you the exact TV we were looking at. Say hello to the Sony Bravia 9 Mark II. Did
00:49Sony miss
00:50a golden opportunity to call this a Bravia 10? Maybe. All I know is that this is Sony's new
00:55flagship mini-LED powerhouse. If you missed my previous true RGB video, I recommend you go
01:01watch it for a full deep dive, but for a quick refresher, true RGB is Sony's answer to getting
01:06the absolute best of both worlds, draw-dropping mini-LED brightness with unmatched color precision.
01:12It delivers double the color volume of the Bravia 9 and a staggering four times the color volume of the
01:18newer Bravia 8 Mark II OLED. Sony's big claim here is matching both the intent and peak brightness
01:26of the legendary BVM HX3110, their $30,000 professional studio mastering monitor. To do that,
01:34this consumer TV would need to hit around 4,000 nits peak brightness. So we ran some tests. Granted,
01:41this is a pre-production unit here, but when we threw the standard 10% HDR window at it,
01:46it truly hit that 4K mark. Thanks to that Illuminous Booster Pro Tech, it was just a few nits shy
01:53right
01:53out of the box without us even tweaking the settings. On the design front, Sony is doing
01:59some edgy things. They're using a lenticular material on the base that completely conceals
02:04your cables, combined with a slidable element to adjust the stand, making the TV look like it's
02:10actually floating in midair. But the real flex is on the front panel featuring immersive black
02:18screen pro. Traditional anti-glare just adds a rough layer to scatter light, which can make the
02:23picture look a little hazy. Sony is using a low-reflection treatment here that works like a
02:28reverse wave effect to actually absorb and cancel out competing light sources. I saw it side-by-side
02:35against Samsung and LG's latest OLEDs, and Sony's panel easily absorbed the most ambient light.
02:41It was in a controlled demo environment, so I'm anxious to get this into my own studio for
02:45independent testing. But first impressions? Incredibly impressive.
02:52Sony also redesigned the acoustic layout, physically aligning the sub, mid-range drivers,
02:57and tweeter ducks. This allows the TV housing to be thinner without losing sound amplitude.
03:04The result is a higher, more central soundstage that makes dialogue feel like it's coming straight
03:09out of the characters' mouths. From the demo room, I can't say I noticed a massive difference
03:14over the original Bravia 9, but to be fair, Sony TVs already sound a lot better than the competition
03:20anyway. A real jaw-dropper moment came when we booted up Black Widow. I was hunting for the classic
03:26blooming Achilles heel, but on the Bravia 9 Mark II, it was virtually non-existent. Like, very stunning.
03:33Sony insists OLED isn't going anywhere, but when Mini-LED controls backlighting this well while
03:39pumping out 4,000 nits, why would I even want OLED anymore? Of course, this was just a preview. We
03:46still
03:46need to do official test results on retail units to see how this scales from the 65-inch model all
03:53the
03:53way up to the monstrous 115-inch version. But what do you guys think? Is true RGB and 4,000
03:59nits
03:59enough to make you skip OLED this year?
04:03So that is Bravia 9 Mark II, and this is just my hands-on. I know we covered a lot,
04:09you guys,
04:10so you're going to want to stick around for the full review. And yes, that is my excuse
04:14to remind you to subscribe to the channel. But hey, while you're here, be sure to give this
04:18vid a thumbs up and leave me some really good questions about Bravia 9 Mark II in the comments.
04:23Thank you so much for watching. I will catch you next time.
