00:00Tesla has just announced a flying roadster, and anyone who thinks they'll ever own one is deluded.
00:05Shown off in an admittedly flashy demo, the car is a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX,
00:10relying on 10 thruster novels that fire highly compressed air to allow the car to take off and
00:15perform impressive mid-air manoeuvres. It also boasts a fan system which sucks the car onto the
00:20road, even when driving vertically or upside down, and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 in under a
00:25second. This thing is a stunt driver's dream, but there's no way this roadster will ever be street
00:30legal in any country with sensible road laws, despite Musk's promises. Even ignoring the general risks of
00:36giving idiots cars that can launch into the air on a whim, the compressed gas the roadster uses to jump
00:41is reportedly being stored at 10,000 psi. If the container was ever damaged, a resulting puncture
00:47could rip the car and its passengers apart in a supersonic explosion. Of course, this assumes the
00:53rocket powered roadster even actually gets made. Let's not forget, Tesla announced its second
00:58generation roadster, one without any SpaceX tech, all the way back in 2017. Originally due to enter
01:04production in 2020, it has been delayed again and again, with this re-reveal pushing things back
01:10from the recently promised deadline of 2027 into 2028, over a decade after Tesla started accepting
01:16pre-orders for the car. But hey, if you think this roadster isn't the vehicle equivalent of
01:21vaporware, you're in luck. I have a bridge I'd love to sell you.
