First Day Fails
Transcript
00:01Oh, happy back to school season.
00:05Yeah, a lot of kids have gone back already.
00:09Today is my son's first day of school.
00:11Today's also my daughter's first day of classes,
00:13although I don't know that she's actually going
00:15because they have a volleyball tournament at another school,
00:19so they're traveling today.
00:20So I think she's missing her entire first week of college classes.
00:24And your son is leaving the first day early
00:26because of the golf team that he had made on the high school team,
00:30which is so cool.
00:31This is why it pays to be an athlete or a detriment,
00:34but, you know, for my kids, no, for sure.
00:36Get out of school early.
00:37That's what they're all about.
00:38Yeah, and my daughter started preschool, oh, my gosh, yesterday,
00:43and we had an incredible morning.
00:45It was great.
00:46It was, first of all, I just want to say, like, quick side note,
00:48it was so nice being home yesterday.
00:50So it's nothing when we pick up for each other,
00:53but thank you, guys, because it was so nice being home,
00:57seeing her, getting her dress,
00:58taking the pictures with the board and everything was so adorable.
01:01However, there was a giant glaring issue
01:04right after the Sesame Street gate.
01:07I've been there on a day it was closed.
01:11Sesame Place closed on weekday starting September 1st,
01:13and I was there September 1st on a weekday.
01:15My daughter, we had a couple friends over over the weekend,
01:18and she wanted to show all the kids.
01:20There's, like, seven kids in my house that just walked in the front door
01:24because that's that kind of neighborhood.
01:26Come see my playroom.
01:27Bang!
01:28Trips over one of Bodie's toys trying to jump over it,
01:31hits her face on the floor, black eye.
01:34Oh, my gosh.
01:35And it's worse today, the black eye,
01:37than it was yesterday on the first day of school.
01:40Oh, my gosh.
01:41So I see one of the teachers of the school lives in our neighborhood,
01:44and we're at a party, and she's like,
01:46oh, you might want to tell the teachers and the principal what happened.
01:49I'm like, absolutely, I will.
01:52I just hope I don't do what I always do,
01:54which is over-explain things,
01:55and then that just looks weird.
01:57Yeah.
01:58So they're like, oh, what happened, McKinley?
02:00And I said, okay, so here's what happened.
02:01It was approximately 10, 15, and da-da-da-da-da.
02:06Maybe TMI.
02:07Maybe a little too much information on that.
02:08As long as you have an alibi, you're good.
02:11Well, I was right there for it,
02:13but I do have witnesses.
02:14But then, you know, she has such chunky cheeks,
02:16you can't even really tell,
02:18because when she smiles, it kind of, like, deletes it.
02:21Yeah, you can't see it in the photos,
02:23which is a blessing.
02:25You know, but it's also like, wait, do you, oh, oh, McKinley.
02:30Yep.
02:30Yep.
02:30Do you feel safe at home?
02:32Yeah, exactly.
02:33And I hope, I mean, it's that kind of school, too.
02:35They're like, we love your kids first,
02:36we teach them second.
02:37And I'm like, yeah, me too.
02:38Same.
02:39I promise.
02:39I swear.
02:41I swear.
02:41But listen, you know,
02:44sending your kid to school with a black eye,
02:46like, literally her first day of school ever.
02:48Ever.
02:48This is something you'll never forget, Jeff.
02:50Way to go.
02:51Just like I will never forget
02:53Leonard's last day of middle school,
02:55last first day of middle school,
02:57when I just didn't know school had started
03:00and did not send him.
03:01And didn't know it until 7 o'clock that night.
03:04I'm not going to lie.
03:05You'd be the best mom ever.
03:06That's how connected I am.
03:08I almost died.
03:10Yeah.
03:11I wanted to crawl in a hole.
03:14Like, I almost dug my own grave.
03:16I was, I felt horrible.
03:18I'm driving him to football practice that night.
03:20And he's like, I think we had school today, mom.
03:23Oh my gosh.
03:24Stop.
03:25Like, what do you do in that?
03:27Like, what, what are you,
03:29what is your reaction to that?
03:30Yeah.
03:30I was like, I don't even remember.
03:33I don't even remember.
03:34But I, I think I went back and looked at the school calendar,
03:37which I know that I had put in my calendar.
03:40So I do think that the day changed.
03:43Right.
03:43I think that at the beginning of the summer,
03:45it was supposed to be one day
03:45and it ended up being another day.
03:47And I just never went back to look again.
03:49But anyway, I called,
03:50I called and sent emails and all the things.
03:53And I was like, this is all on me.
03:55I'm an idiot.
03:56You know that I'm an idiot.
03:57I'm the worst mom ever.
04:00And I own it.
04:01But today got him off onto the school bus.
04:04And the school bus arrived, right?
04:06Like it wasn't a day early.
04:07Cause I know families who have done that.
04:09Got their kids dressed.
04:10School bus doesn't show up
04:12cause school starts tomorrow.
04:13Yeah.
04:13I mean, it was,
04:14it was about an hour ago
04:15and he hasn't walked back in the house.
04:17So I'm guessing that yes,
04:19the bus did.
04:19He just walked to high school.
04:21Check the porch though.
04:22Oh wow.
