00:00Are you disappointed that you're facing a challenge for the nomination in that by-election in
00:04Holborn and St. Nicholas? I'm really proud that I lead a party that has genuine democratic
00:09selections and I think that's alien to almost any of the other parties. So it doesn't surprise me
00:14when some of the coverage talks about you know some sort of coup or some sort of battle. Actually
00:19what's happening is very simple. It's a democratic open selection and I'm really looking forward to
00:23the hustings with debate and inevitably the vote and hopefully the campaign. Mr. Chowdhury said
00:29that you know we don't need another MP who arrives during an election campaign, puts out a few
00:34leaflets, makes a few promises and disappears once the votes are counted. What's your message to the
00:38local party to address those concerns that you're using this to further your own ambition? Well I
00:43think the local party already know that doesn't describe me at all. In fact I've lived on and off
00:46in Holborn and St Pancras and Camden Town, Kentish Town, Moyes and Crescent for the last 20 years. It's
00:51a place that I know very very well. I would also say I have a history as a London Assembly
00:55member. I've
00:56been elected for the last five years and I've literally been representing Londoners which includes
01:00Holborn and St Pancras. And finally what I would say is I also have a history of working really hard
01:06for the people that I'm elected to represent. So we'll have that conversation at the hustings. I'm
01:11proud and excited about what I have to offer and I'm really hoping to engage in that campaign
01:17because when I've been knocking on doors and I've knocked on nearly 2,000 now already, what I'm
01:22meeting are people over and over again who recognise this contest is between the Labour Party
01:25and the Green Party. Some of those people say, oh do we need to give Andy Burnham a chance?
01:30And the easy answer to that is you can still give him a chance. If you elect a Labour MP
01:34that's just
01:35another MP on the back benches. If you elect an independent Green Voice for Holborn and St Pancras
01:39that's someone who can hold Andy Burnham to account in constructive ways on things like no new oil and gas
01:45in the North Sea, on protecting nature, on rent controls, on bringing water companies into
01:51nationalisation rather than vague hand-waving about public control, let's have actual public ownership.
01:57And so I'm excited for this campaign because I think the Green Party and I have a real story to
02:02tell
02:02and I'm confident but not complacent I'll be out there campaigning for every vote that it's a message
02:06that will resonate with people in Hobart and St Pancras.
