00:00Claire Coutinho's Shadow Business Secretary, she has been up against Ed Miliband for the last couple of years.
00:06She's going to have a second child and she was a key SUNAC ally, so she's done quite well to
00:13sort of stay in.
00:14She's very impressive, is Claire.
00:15Very impressive, is Claire.
00:17Did you notice the Harriet Harman comment on her appointment?
00:21Yeah, I thought that was...
00:22That was a good old sigh there.
00:23It wasn't great from Harriet.
00:24So what happened was, I think probably on a podcast, so obviously we are very complimentary about all podcasts,
00:29Another lady podcast.
00:31Another lady podcast.
00:32A lady podcast. Who listens to that?
00:35So she said something that Kemi Badenock had made a woke move by appointing somebody who's on maternity leave to,
00:44or basically promoting her, and that she never thought she'd see the day.
00:47Now, partly, I think Harriet Harman is rightly quite grumpy about the fact that on any measure,
00:54the Conservatives are just better at having women in more senior roles than the Labour Party.
01:00And you can't fudge that at all.
01:01To describe it as woke, though, was just like, it was sort of a perfect thing where just everybody got
01:07to play in their lane.
01:08So Harriet Harman said it was woke, and then obviously Claire Coutinho and the chair of the Conservative Party went
01:14absolutely crackers
01:15and did a whole kind of, it's not woke at all, it's just about putting the best person in the
01:19job,
01:19and how dare you assume I've just been judged in this way because I'm a woman.
01:23And yeah, everybody had a good old-fashioned fight about it.
01:26Yeah, everyone, yeah, back to school, good old knees up.
01:30But actually, it's also just necessary.
01:31They don't have that many MPs to choose from, and Claire is really experienced and really talented.
01:36There's no doubt she's been promoted because she's good, not because she's pregnant.
