00:00Jacob joins me now. We have to say, first of all, you do look completely different
00:03because this is obviously your filming scenes now where your character is going through chemo,
00:09so hence... Yeah, this happened yesterday.
00:12Did it? You're still getting used to it?
00:13Yeah. It might take a while, but we went down to a number two
00:17and then we shaved it completely off yesterday.
00:19Right, OK. And obviously, of course, because that's what happens in real life.
00:22Exactly. When you were told about this storyline,
00:25because it's a tough subject, how did you feel about it initially
00:27when they said you wanted to do this?
00:29Very grateful, to be honest.
00:31I think, you know, Kit's been part of the policey stuff there for a while,
00:35so it was something more personal and I just wanted to take the opportunity
00:38to hopefully do a good job.
00:40No, exactly. It is rare, but it does happen.
00:43Yeah. And I think you saw there, particularly in that scene,
00:46you did it so well, the confusion, the sort of, no, wait a minute,
00:48that doesn't happen to me. Yeah.
00:50That happens to women and that's, you know, I'm sure you will have talked to people
00:53who've gone through it. You can understand that, can't you?
00:56Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's total disbelief, I think,
00:58and he's sort of getting his head around.
01:01It's not just cancer, it's breast cancer as well and, you know,
01:03he's just getting his head around the whole thing.
01:05No, exactly, and it's hard and it's that feeling,
01:08there's vulnerability there, isn't there? Yeah.
01:10There's a little bit, shouldn't be, but there's a little bit of embarrassment
01:13as well, which there absolutely shouldn't be.
01:15And a wee bit isolated, I think.
01:17Yeah, I think the more I spoke to people with the, you know, male breast cancer,
01:22the more I realised that it's, you know, it's sort of a woman's world in a way.
01:27You know, it happens to both people, but we don't realise how much, you know,
01:32what situation you're putting in terms of, like, the lilac rooms and stuff like that.
01:36Right.
01:36How, you know, you can feel a bit emasculated.
01:40Yeah, I can understand that completely.
01:42We did our Change in Check campaign,
01:44and we did get, obviously, a lot of women,
01:46but we also had one man, and it was true,
01:50it is really, we mustn't forget that,
01:53we always try to remember,
01:55and that's where Coronation Street's doing us a great service.
01:57Yeah.
01:57Because I know this is part of your character,
02:00and it's part of that,
02:00but there is a big message there, isn't there?
02:03Yeah, yeah.
02:04I'm hoping to get some awareness out for, you know,
02:08it's a big killer as well in the woman's world,
02:11so hopefully we can get it out to the males as well.
02:15Exactly, exactly.
02:16And take away that daft sense of shame that people have got.
02:20Yeah, exactly.
02:20Got to stop that.
02:21Everyone has pressed.
02:21I mean...
